X-plane.org suspends people for downloading too much?

I downloaded quite a bit since most stuff needs to be downloaded from there (hint devs, start using workshop so I don't have to). Now I am suspended and cannot even get support for a Product I bought 25$ for. This is a first. If not else because it is 2018 and I have am not used to limited bandwidth anywhere.

I think this Product is great but the community around it seems a bit lacking so far. Nees to step up it's game if XP is to come anywhere close to the 1 million copies that FSX sold. These type of shady businesses needs to be controlled for one.

You can not use anything without an account there. That was my point. They blocked the entire IP-address from doing anything. This is quite heavy handed I would say.

Sure but healthy criticism is what takes a community forward. There is a reason why FSX has over one million users and XP only 80k so far. This is because DTG went all in with supporting the Steam version. Obviously if you want to develop your site further you should listen to criticism. This is how small companies become big.

Now, there is a key thing you are missing here. I did not get the Dash for frree. I bought it at their store for real money. That should entitle me to get al lthe support I need. This support was on their forums which I could not reach. This is not very pro. Look at JustFlight and how easy to use their support is. This is the gold standard as far as I am concerned. If the store is too much to handle they could always let it be handled by the pros at JustFlight or something.

XP of course has to ask themselves if 80k is enough or 1 million like FSX is more desirable to have from income perspective.

XPlane.org could always take a look at AVSIM or FlightSIm.com for thriving communities and how to handle downloads without IP-banning regular users :D.

Hopefully with the increased popularity of XP11, there could be more action in the veteran communities with more experience in these matters. That will help increase the quality.

X-Plane has well over 80,000 users. More like 400,000, but I don't have official stats to prove this number. Maybe I could email them.

Even more amazing that People avoid reading what is being written. These guys SELL addons. I bought one of them.

You are confusing the X-plane.org STORE with the X-plane.org forums... two different things.

Again, they do NOT block you because of the number of downloads.

What you experienced may be due to a prior block on someone else who may have had the same IP as you, or for some reason other than downloads.

When you hit the per-day download limit you merely cannot download until the next day.

Hopefully you fired off a message asking why you were banned and got that resolved.

As far as I know they are the same owners. Says so in the about section. Why else do they use the forums for support? Anyway. The addon was not free.

It is very simple. Once you start doing business you are expected to support your Product (the paid one).

Anyway. The matter is closed for my part, they did what I asked about. Next time I will buy from JustFlight instead, that way I know I will not risc post sales support :).

X-Plane.org store sells the addons but does not produce them. You will have to discuss your support issue with the developers and the publishers of the addons instead. They can then in return push on X-Plane.org, to not lock out people from the support forums (if they are meant to be the official support forums), or point you to the official support lines.
And to say it even more drastic than in my previous post: To my opinion, breaking the download limit at X-Plane.org is simply idiotic, as you will never ever be able to really use all the downloaded stuff. In fact you are not using X-Plane.org, you are abusing it, simple as that. With your attitude, I'd point you to a commercial download service where you'd have to pay for downloading unlimited amounts of stuff. Oh, it doesn't exist? Well, create it! That would be far more constructive as your critics about download limits, which are well beyond what any sane human is able to use up!

download limit, fine. but when the downloads fail, and retrying counts as a download, that is wrong. i have been trying all day to download a 249 MB file.
it taking a half hour, fine. if failing constantly, is not.
blocking extra downloads, fine blocking from getting support, is not.

The download limit resets after a day.

Large downloads like that are normally done via external servers. Often Google's sharing is used.

Once you have that open, subsequent attempts do not count against the X-plane.org downloads as the X-plane servers do not see the attempt to download from Google. Just don't go back to X-plane and click the download button again.

If you can't get a 249mb file, look to your provider. It is not an issue with X-plane.org.

BTW: Zibo's mod alone is well over 1.2 gigabytes in size.

Anyway, X-Plane has sold hundreds of thousands of copies, and the devs have NO affiliation with forums.x-plane.org, so there won't be a workshop.

Have you been on the X Plane page on FB recently? Its like a toxic pit over there. If they disagree with you, they don't have a discussion, they troll you, they belittle you and they laugh at constructive criticism if it goes against their train of thought. The admins don't care because they think its now beyond control.
