[Solved] Game crashes when loading any 3D airport with World Objects set to greater than zero
Hello,

My X-Plane 11.11 crashes and reboots the PC when launching any map that has 3D objects (eg a large airport) if the Number of World Objects is set to anything higher than zero.

If I set World Objects to zero then 3D maps will load successfully; additionally I can successfully load any smaller map (eg dirt, gravel strips) at any World Objects graphical setting.

I can reduce and crank up every other graphics setting to MAX (Visual Effectgs, Texture Quality, AA, Reflections) with the same stability results (i.e 3D maps crash if World Objects are set to greater than zero regardless of any other graphics setting).

This crash occurs on both Nvidia drivers (388.71 and the current 390.65) and all other games launch successfully.

Any help would be appreciated.

How do I delete preferences?

Also more testing has narrowed down the issue:

X Plane 11.11R1 crashes and reboots my PC when loading larger airports, however it seems to work okay when loading dirt, grass or gravel airstrips.

I moved the entire custom scenery folder to a new folder called "Backup - Custom Scenery" and the game continues to crash in the same way with larger airports.

I deleted and then reinstalled X Plane 11 via Steam twice. Unfortunately even with a totally vanilla installation the game continues to crash whenever I load a 3D map when the Number of World Objects is greater than zero.

All other games continue to work on this PC normally.

Any help would be appreciated.

This is really, really odd, and I have no idea why it is happening. Is the last line of log.txt always the same? Maybe you could load up successfully, and then change the number of world objects to crash the sim.

Unfortunately my issues remains unresolved. I installed all latest Motherboard drivers, Microsoft Visual Studio drivers, NVidia drivers today to no avail. The same error occurs:

- I can launch an airport when zero Number of World Objects is set
- Within that flight, if I disable the xlua plugin and then change the Number of World Objects to anything other than zero, the game continues to crash at the same point in loading process
- I tried in full screen and windowed mode with same crash results
- I tried to set the game to only display the 2D panel with same crash results

Does anyone know what does X Plane 11 specifically try to load when loading World Objects and is there any other software / drivers I could be re-installing on my PC?

Thanks

Please post the LAST 20 lines from the log.txt file immediately after a crash.

Also post the entire output of

Steam / Help / System Information

into a new post here.

This is an extract of 3 LOG.TXT files;

1) The first worked successfully when world objects set to zero.

2) Immediately after this I changed the World Objects to one setting above zero and started a new flight. The only log difference I can see is the addition of the following line in the crashed log: 0:00:28.796 I/REN: Setting |3-d drawing detail set to 1.

3) Successfully loaded the game with zero World Objects. Then changed that configuration setting mid-flight to greater than zero World Objects

I can't see any difference in the logs and it crashes at the same point...

Many thanks for your help

Below is Steam System Information extract.

I also ran Microsoft's Windows 10 System Integrity check and it came up with zero issues.

Are you posting the END (bottom) of the log each time? That is what needs to be reviewed.

The logs will show that X-plane crashed and WHY it crashed whenever an error occurs.

I don't see those entries in your posts.

I'll take a quick stab... because I had a similar problem with x-plane. This program uses a LOT of RAM when working with many world objects. I had a dead stick of RAM. As soon as the memory usage went over 8 GB, the machine rebooted.

The tipoff might be that the machine is rebooting - that generally implies that the OS has crashed - not just the program. I would look at a hardware failure at that point - hence the RAM suggestion.

Yes - in the above logs (and the many others times has crashed), these are the very last lines posted. When it fails the last log.txt line is

....Loaded: E:\Games/Steam/steamapps/common/X-Plane 11/Aircraft/Laminar Research/xxxxxxxxx/plugins/xlua/64/win.xpl (com.x-plane.xlua.1.0.0r1).

Unfortunately Windows 10 event manager doesn't say much either, other than the PC has recovered from an unexpected shutdown. Event Manager doesn't specify what crashed.

In relation to RAM, I ran X Plane in windowed mode:
-Zero Number of World Objects (when sitting on Seattle Airport tarmac awaiting takeoff)
33% RAM Usage
1196Mb X-Plane.exe

- Low Number of World Objects (below are the last stats as X-Plane was loading before it crashed).
37% RAM Usage
2448Mb X-Plane.exe
99.8% CPU Usage

I can play every other game in this gaming PC successfully (Project Cars 2, rFactor 2, Tekken 7,...).

Success!

Asus Z-370H Motherboard BIOS upgrade from:

From:
ROG STRIX Z370-H GAMING BIOS v0802
01 November 2017

to:

ROG STRIX Z370-H GAMING BIOS v1003
02 January 2018

Following this BIOS upgrade I can now run every graphic setting on Max @ 7680*1080 + a separate Instructor's Panel on the 4th monitor.

Note: I don't know why it stopped working in the last week; perhaps a recent Windows or Intel Chipset upgrade clashed with the older BIOS.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers
Spectre and Meltdown come to mind... Anyway, enjoy your flights!
