Some planes use a plug-in that checks for an update every time X-plane starts.
Others use a Java program that you must configure and run.
And of course others require you to check for and perform all updates manually.
1) check the .org store 'new' page pretty much daily, as it shows updated aircraft as well.
2) run the skunkcrafts updater every few days
3) read sim news sites / fb groups
4) receive email alerts from the devs (or x-aviation store).
I thought everything was updated automatically.
Thank you
If you installed the Skunkcrafts updater by default it should run when XP11 starts. You will hear a beeping sound and then it will say that updates are complete. If you have it installed but are not hearing the beeping when starting XP11 then start a flight and then go to plugins, skunkcrafts updater and check options. The top option is the one that automatically checks and updates the aircraft. The bottom one turns the automatic updating off so you have to manually check for updates. The updater also shows you which aircraft and scenery it's checking updates for.
Apparently I didn't have it installed.
After installing the plugin I had two aerobask planes available for updating but my others must use another type of updater.
I will investigate more.
Thanks guys!
It's quite a pain that really could be improved (along with payware licensing mechanisms), but the skunkcrafts updater seems to be increasing in popularity with all my REP aircraft, most Aerobask and a few others using it now.
I prefer it to be a standalone updater and not an X-plane plugin.
X-plane already takes waaay too long for me to load given all of the planes, plugins and scenery it has to scan and load.
The Skunkcrafts updater takes a good chunk of time checking for updates, etc.
I have 2TB of ortho on a Hybrid drive. It takes awhile to load but not too bad.
I think the new version of X organizer or maybe even the original you can cancel out what you don't want to load and use only where your flying. I like the idea but what a pain to constantly check and uncheck every time you have a new flight plan.
