windowed mode

a have a friend of mine who told me his xplane only runs fullscreen and when he goes to the monitor settings it has no option for a windowed mode.. as you may know, xplane has ths thing about not wanting not letting /giving you your desktop back when your in full screen even when you tab out or hit the ms key. so im not sure what to say to him on how to fix it so it has the windowed option. (mine has the option for windowed mode)
any ideas?

Maybe he has somehow got it running in Kiosk mode?

he is new, just bought it on steam, installed and ran it.. im not sure what kiosk mode is, but isnt that some sort of demo mode? i know a few other guys who bought XP11 this last week and they all can choose a windowed mode. i just dont know how to help him.

Maybe bit off topic but if I run xp11 in window mode I get much more fps it runs smoother? Is this normal?

What resolution does your friend have their monitor default resolution set to in windows ?

If things are still the same if you have your default display set to low then the windowed mode in X-Plane won't be an option, I think X-Planes minimum resolution is 1024x768. If the default display is set to lower than that then windowed mode probably won't work.

I just tried something, changed my desktop resolution to 800x600 then launched X-Plane and indeed the windowed option isn't available, Have your friend check their desktop resolution.

It's also normal to obtain higher FPS in windowed mode than full screen from my own short experience with X-Plane as your PC isn't having to fill the whole screen I guess ?

I'm also not finding a way to run Xplane11 in windowed mode. There seem to be no settings options on the root game screen. And using the menu bar nothing is available under the View menu bar.

How are you guys getting it to run in windowed mode?
