X-Plane 11
Xenviro or Active sky XP?
Which one is better?
投稿主: John W:
I have both. Active sky basically looks like the default weather but has enhanced clouds so the clouds look a bit better. Same weather patterns and same stupid looking cloud radius. So when you are below an overcast you can look around and see that the clouds extend equally in all directions and abruptly end, which looks bad.

I don't get that effect with xEnviro 1.10, but it has some issues right now that are being worked on. Hopefully they will be resolved or mitigated with the release of v1.11, but nobody knows at this point. That being said, despite the issues with xEnviro 1.10 I still prefer it to Active Sky XP under most circumstances.

Also, Active Sky XP is supposedly working on a newer version which, when released will not be free to existing owners. There may be an upgrade price but that is not known. According to xEnviro once they finish with the version 1.xx series, they will start working on a version 2.xx which will also cost existing users.

HaHaHaHa -- oh dear!!!!!!!!
John - Do you work for X-Enviro??????
I too have both X-Enviro 1.10 and Active Sky XP and wonder how you can recommend X-Enviro?
Perhaps you have found a way to get passed the chronic drop in FPS with X-Enviro even though people with 1080TI's say otherwise....

I guess he's one of those who can't see a difference between 20 and 50fps.
I do not have a significant fps drop with xEnviro 1.10 on my system. Here are the results of a test I just did at various airports. I went to badbadweather.com and chose airports with rain, so there was significant cloud cover and precipitation.

KOSC
37-40 ASXP
34-36 xEnviro

KFAR
32-36 ASXP
27-30 xEnviro

KMCF
40-43 ASXP
34-37 xEnviro

KSEA - Drzewiecki Seattle Airports and Seattle City
21-23 ASXP
21-23 xEnviro

I have the Drzewiecki Seattle scenery loaded at KSEA as well as ortho scenery. There is an fps drop with xEnviro in most locations but for me it's only about 5fps and I still get enough frames per second to have a smooth simulation. The me state that those fps numbers are just sitting at the end of the runway at those locations.

Let me add that I do not think there is yet a good weather engine for X-Plane 11. There are issues with all of them. For me it's mostly the cloud draw distance. I detest seeing clouds drawn overhead that extend equally in all directions and then abruptly stop. For the most part I do not get that in xEnviro but that is not to say that I always prefer the way the clouds look in xEnviro. Sometimes the they just don't look right and I switch over to ASXP. But then there are a lot of times that I just can't stand the way ASXP looks. Even with the higher resolution cloud textures it sometimes just looks really bad. And there's that cloud draw distance limit that ASXP has. Then it's back to xEnviro.

So since there are issues with all of the weather engines my suggestion is to watch videos of the different weather engines on the web and make your own choice. Something you can live with. My hopes are still with xEnviro because it does snow in the winter on all ground textures (ortho, default, add on scenery) and will eventually do Fall colors (at least that is my understanding), and the clouds appear to extend to the horizon although not always. It also does rain on the windscreen. But this is all just my opinion.

The resolution is right now the prob in xE 1.10. 1080p should not that bad, above.... forget it. ;) For the representation of the weather check some videos/streams and also xE 1.06, 1.07 & 1.09. You have the possibility to use older xE versions.

Fact: Currently we have no proper weather engine + cloud drawings. Its all a compromise. Your choice.
