Using racing pedals as a rudder
Would that work? I have the pedals that came with a Logitch g920.
And as I am getting the game soon, once I get myself a joystick do I need to mess around with any keybinds, or is it recommended to just use the 3D cockpit as controls all the time?

I heard people use them, so I guess that is possible, try it in the demo I guess.
Keybinds are very useful when you are flying so you don't need to release yoke/throttles to use the mouse. Trim, autopilot disconnect, TO/GA button (if you are flying jets), etc. very useful, trim kinda being the requirement on the yoke/joystick cause you have to use it by feel.

There are some cheap Joysticks with a build in rudder axis (Extreme 3D Pro for example)

That's the one I'm getting lol! I never knew it had a rudder! If racing pedals don't work I guess I'll use that!

I think the racing pedals would work a lot better than that crappy rudder.

Out of the box your joystick pedals will not work as a rudder because Windows sees them as two axes when the rudder should have only one axe. But that is not a problem since you can install this plugin to solve the problem: https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/11801-x-toebrake2yaw-linmacwin3264/&ct=1561017604

Depends on the racing wheel and default configuration, though it's good to have a tool like this for wheels that don't have configuration utilities.

Been using some old Attack3 for years, and defined "Autorudder" on FSX Configuration.
As I plug the new Ex 3D , the FSX-SE turn the Z axis to rudder by its own, since then it works for air and land maneuvers , just with a wrist twist!
(It works for X-P 11 and Prepar 3 D 4 too!)

I use my Thrustmaster gas pedal as a collective for flying helicopters.

I can verify this plugin works with the G25 pedal set, which should be rather similar to the G920 one. I use the gas and clutch pedals on separate axes for rudder and differential braking.

Racing Pedals will work just fine, you can assign any device you like. The Extreme 3D pro will give you TWO options for rudder control, the twist axis on the joystick and/or the Left/Right toggle bar on the throttle. I usually use the toggle bar for nosewheel steering on large jets however. But the toggle bar is a fun way to go for acrobatic aircraft or other responsive planes. Play around with all the options and have fun.

Trying to use my G25 pedals as rudder. There is only one destination to assign, so it does not work. I would like to use the accelerator as a "right rudder" and my clutch as a "left rudder". Works perfectly fine in DCS. The only thing is for X-plane to ADD 2 inputs for rudder, not a single one!

That is BASIC flying. Thanks for any responses.

you should look into logitech software, my old wheel had an option to combine two pedals into a single axis. though it might not work since you have three pedals

I have had my "cheap" logitec 3d pro for 25 years.

I'll check that out for sure. Think FSX worked that way. I might have to use BRAKE and ACCELERATION as a combined input. Could work. Will report back on any progress ;)
Thanks for tip!

Ok, so went back to X-plane (with combined pedals) and tried to setu
p the rudder. However, it does not allow you to assign the input. I can only see "trim rudder", which is not what I want. *Sigh*. Will keep trying and then go back to DCS if not working. I am sure I'm missing something here :*)
