X-Plane 11

X-Plane 11

Logitech X52 HOTAS recognized but not working in flight
I have just purchased XPlane 11, after I was gifted a Logitech X52 HOTAS. I've configured and calibrated the device(s). I see the images of the devices in the joystick configuration window and the calibration works fine as I move various controls. So, my machine AND XPlane recognize and respond to both the stick and throttle .

But here's the thing...it doesn't actually work in flights. When I start a new flight neither the stick or throttle have any effect.

If I click the little configuration icon at the top right andi am taken to the joystick tab, I can see the joystick images and the axis configuration options respond to my changes.

But as soon close the configuration window and go back into the flight itself...nothing.

I think all this means it's not a hardware issue, it's not a device driver issue and it's not a Windows issue (as I say, the device is fully responsive everywhere except in a flight itself).

What might I be missing?

Thank you?

To add to this, the X52 HOTAS works just fine in Elite Dangerous. So pretty unclear as to what the issue here is but it's looks like an XPlane issue to me.

Hi, all I could find was this post somewhere else. Hopefully it will provide a solution for you !!

Thank you for your response, @rob2day. I had gone through some of these links and had edited the joystick configuration file to make the images show up, etc (it did surprise me that such a common HOTAS wasn't already recognized, but I digress).

The part that is utterly confusing to me is that XPlane completely recognizes the device - I see the appropriate images, I can edit the configuration, calibrate, etc, etc all from within XPlane.

In that context it seems to work perfectly....until I launch a flight and then it's as dead as a dodo!

It's very frustrating, especially since the same device "just works" in Elite Dangerous. Unfortunately, my significant efforts to troubleshoot this have taken me past the 2 hours of use for a refund, but I suspect I'd be thinking of doing just that if I hadn't already past that mark.

Thank you again for the pointers.

When you calibrated the stick in X-Plane you have assigned an action to each axis ?

X-Plane doesn't do that for you, that could be why nothing is working when you start a flight despite things seeming to be ok during calibration.

In the calibration window you'll see each axis has none set as the action to perform, if you hit the arrow on the right on each axis you can choose what action that axis performs Pitch,Yaw,Roll,Throttle etc

Thank you again. Yes, I have actions assigned to everything in the calibration window.

Does anything on the thread above help you at all ? Sorry I'm not much use as I don't own that particular item and am just scouring the net pretty much looking for things that may help.

Perhaps creating a profile for the hotas is something you might need to do ? The youtube video explains how to do that.
