X-Plane 11

X-Plane 11

How complete is the world map?
I'm coming from FSX which has the whole world map and 24,000 airports, so I can fly to the most isolated location on the pacific ocean and land on a remote island if I wish, even if textures are very generic, but I loved the sense of completeness and freedom.

I'm interested in x-plane and know it has better dynamics and graphics, but what about the world map and topography? I'm interested in the base game and free official expansions only. Can I still fly over any point on Earth from pole to pole? Would I still find each airport in its place with its official frequencies even if it's just a plain generic runway?

I read some posts and they said all world airports are there but the smaller ones are satellite maps or something like that, not sure what it means, but I couldn't find an answer about the world map.

Thanks!

There are 36,025 airports in X-Plane - that's 50% more. 12,602 of these (about a third) have 3D objects in them. These are likely to include mega airports to medium-sized airports, whereas really remote airports will only have the runways and basic taxilines defined. Although they won't look too pretty, I think their surfaces are pretty accurate (asphalt, concrete, grass, dirt, gravel) and their position is also accurate.

There was a discussion about Antarctica not too long ago, and we found there were some Antarctic airports included, but not all of them. I guess it makes sense because some of them are seasonal airports.

Thanks! So I guess for airport completeness x-plane is far better than FSX. But what would I see if I take a polar flight, or one over the pacific? Would I see even the smaller islands? Or the same topography of other remote lands?

There is no Arctic either, anything above a certain latitude is missing. You can buy these but theyre not included in game

I just moved from FSX to X-Plane 11 (I tried to use X-Plane 10 but I didn't like it). For what concern topography and scenery X-Plane 11 is much much more realistic than FSX, some airports will not have building at all, some will have decent 3D, some will have detailed 3D. In any case VFR on X-Plane 11 is an option, on FSX no, if that's matter.

If it was X-Plane 10 I would have suggested against moving to, X-Plane 11 is instead I think much better than FSX and worth moving. Only thing is ATC, even if it has been improved it's far from being perfect.

When it comes to airports, X-plane is up to date, FSX airports were generated with data from 2005, it does not have a single airport or runway built after 2005. X plane does not have every airport in the world but the ones that has been crowd sourced are current and much more accurate.

Scenery can be improved with free software like Ortho4XP (Mesh and Ortho scenery) or W2XP. There are tons of free scenerys to download also.

Google is your friend!
I did say they were available, just not in game. I don't need a quote on on how to use Google. Thank you for the info.

You're welcome, and for the Google instructions.

I've just purchased X-P11 in the sale. I'm a long time user of X-P10.

I can't believe how dumbed down the UI is. X-P10 just seemed to have lots more options but the UI in X-P11 feels like I'm on an iPad.

Taking many types of freeware scenery into consideration, the entire world is available, much of which is very detailed.
