Back to flight simming - should i purchase XP11?
Hello everyone!

So i've been in Flight Simming for about 5-6 years, mostly used FSX and a bit of P3D v3.1. With addons purchased in a range for thousands of $.

Just to name some:

(REX, Orbx, FSDT, Flight 1, HiFi, PMDG, A2ASimulations, Majestic, RealAir, MilViz) etc.....

But since ~February 2016 i haven't touched flight simming.

I'm actually thinking of leaving all that behind and moving on to XP11 as i see it does have a great future and Laminar is very dedicated to it & i don't want to deal with any OOM Errors in
FSX anymore (Yes i know P3D has v4 now - 64bit, but still)

But i have a few key questions, as i couldn't find anything about them in forums/videos.

-Let's say if i don't want to deal with setting up my Joystick/Pedals/TQ at home and want to fly with the Mouse, how does it compare to FSX/P3D? I know in Xp10 you had a tiny box to control flight dynamics, but i disliked that very much.
Can you use the Mouse "all over the screen" to fly? Or do you still have this box?

-How does camera control work, can you hold a key and move your Mouse to look around?

-I know there is Ortho4xp, how does it compare to Orbx? / MisterX's HD Airports to REX's HD Airports?

-Are there any good ATC / AI Addons?

-And very key to my decision making, how is the Weather / WX Engine and depicting in general?

Hope someone can bring me up to speed and answer some of these, seems like a great community, lookin' forward :) Greetings!

Mouse box still exists. But setting up hardware is a breeze now.

You can hold the right-mouse button and move to look around. I use it all the time. Left, right, up and down to move the camera in their respective directions; A, D, R and F to pan and . and , to move backwards and forwards. Shift to go fast, Ctrl to go slow. Motion is smooth too, unlike FSX.

Not sure how Ortho4XP compares, but it's free, and you have a great amount of flexibility with it. MisterX6 airports are beastly being free. X-Plane airports aren't as detailed as P3D airports, but again - Many are FREE!

No good ATC atm aside from Vatsim/IVAO. X-Life is good, but WorldTraffic (V3.0) is better.

Weather is not depicted well at all. Best addon is XEnviro - But it's $70. In the X-Plane community, that = Expensive, and the sole reason why many choose not to buy it. We're waiting to see what ActiveSky has to bring, as well as other developers who are realising X-Plane's potential.

Hope all this helps, because X-Plane is cheap and enjoyable in the long-term!

I would also advise you to try the demo to really see what the basic game is like. Bear in mind the demo is timed and limited to a certain area.

To see what you can do with the sim, try youtube. For some good youtube content on x-plane, check out Q8pilot, Thomas Rasmussen, and Flight and Fun. Those are some of my favorites that give some real good indepth with what you can do. Freeware and Payware. Check out Twitch as well. Usually someone is always streaming x-plane 11

Another good site to check out is www.flightdeckx.com. Its a dedicated news site for Xplane with whats going on in the world of X-plane.

I was in the same boat as you. I am a FSX refugee myself. And I can honestly say I'm glad I switched. Laminar is very commited to their product as well. Do your homework and see what works for you before you spend your hard earned dollar. You have a lot of addons invested that will indeed work with P3D V4. So I can understand your decision being difficult to make. But check out x-plane forsure

Thanks for your input, yeah i tried XP11 (Demo) on my system @KSEA Airport with very close to all max settings and i've gotten well over 35 fps, which is awesome! I also heard quite alot that if you use ortho4xp's photorealistic scenery, fps should increase a bit.

Seems great so far, when i have the time i'll set everything up :)
