X-Plane 11

X-Plane 11

Why do I get much higher frame rates in windowed mode?
I consistently get around 10fps in full-screen mode, however when I switch to windowed mode I suddenly jump to around 30fps. The weird thing is that full-screen almost seems locked at 10fps because it doesn't change regardless of whether I have minimum graphical settings or max graphics settings selected. I have an i7-7700HQ processor @2.8GHz, a gtx 1050ti and 8gb of ram. I can run x-plane at around 20fps with max settings in windowed mode and 30fps with high settings however full-screen seems capped at 10fps. Also, when I bring up task bar or click away from the application in full-screen, it jumps up to 20fps. I'm running 64 bit windows 10 and the game was downloaded through steam.

What settings is your world objects on?
Been a few ppl l8ly with this cpu struggling to perform
Do you have Reshade installed? I'm having the same issue as you, and the only annoying way to fix it is to turn vsync off. Only difference is that I'm locked to either 20, 25 or 30 fps.

Depending on your system, drivers and configuration, full screen often ENABLES graphical features that are not present in Windowed mode.

e.g. transparancy anti-aliasing, certain particle effects, etc.

Full screen mode freezes the desktop image buffer in VRAM, and creates a new rendering buffer using more of the available resources, but usually producing better output and speed.

If you have multiple monitors this can be problematic.

If you do have multiple monitors, try temporarily disconnecting all but your main monitor.
Set your desktop resolution to say 1920x1080, turn off VSYNC, and then try running X-plane again.

If it is still slow, also try a clean install of your Nvidia drivers. You may also have conflicting OpenGL libraries on your system, which a "clean install" (via the "Custom Installation" menu) may fix.
Unfortunately I have to live with fullscreen because of my aspect ratio - 5:4 to be precise. As a result, I have to change to 4K, then put it in windowed mode, then back into 1K to be in windowed mode. This has to be done every time I launch the sim, hence why I don't bother anymore. I'm wondering if Vulkan might solve it.

I thought XP11 doesn't even have an exclusive full screen. Only windowed and borderless fullscreen.

Nope... exclusive full screen works fine.

If your graphics drivers support it at your current native desktop resolution, you even see it in the pull down as an option that reads "Exclusive Full Screen".

You also see "boarderless" full screen, which effectively isn't exclusive... it's a Window over your desktop which is different than exclusive full screen.

I don't have reshade installed. Turning vsync off helps improve frame rates in windowed mode, but fullscreen is still capped at 10

I will try this, thanks

All i can see is only borderless and widowed. The full screen is actually a borderless fullscreen.

Then your display drivers and/or hardware do not permit exclusive full screen.

I do see it as an option.

lol this is the most ridiculous answer. There's no exclusive fullscreen.

Hey kvailys.

Do you see the entry that says "Full Screen Simualtor"... that IS exclusive full screen.

That's borderless fullscreen.

I don't think that happens with a GSync monitor?
