It's a maybe. Xplane 11 was made to run with joysticks/yokes

Its a maybe, but you can also use your keyboard and mouse, and a Steam controller can be used as an alternative (its a keyboard & mouse in the shape of a controller), for those times when you just wanna sit on the sofa with the big Tv and fly fly fly.

O would get yourswlf a good jiystic or yoke mate dependping on what you wan't to fly this is not just a game it's a proper highly dtaed Fligts sim with amazing Physics

I have the Tm HOTAS Warthog Joystick setup and Saitek Combat Flight pedals, and the Game/Sim is not properly set up to use them as intended, yet. Only about 1/4 of the features can be readily mapped to work at the moment.

Maybe in a month or two it will be fully functional.

Until its recommended, I would just use a controller if you are on the fence as to if this type of game/sim is going to be a regular play.

You may also want to spend an additional $150 ish on a TrackIR to enjoy it fully; maybe even invest in a VR setup..

And for flight game/sims such as this, there is often over $1,000 of scenery & plane add-ons.

Its all a matter of how much you are willing to put into it.

Fapt is that i will not buy a joke or something else for 2 reasons: 1) Space !! have a small room and i prefer a little device like a pad; and 2) flying with the steam controller is just.....AMAZING any of you ever tried it?? with the gyro? oh.......just perfect! it's a perfect midway between joke and a normal controller like Xbox (anyway you CAN fly whit m/k on FSX, but the mouse as joke system in x-plane is just.....orrible, badly done....makes you never want to fly....).

Oh! The trackIR is already in my wishlist ;) buy in 5.......4.....

You probably could use the Steam Controller for X-Plane 11, but it would take a bit of trial and error to get a good, working configuration. I personally own a CH Products Eclipse Yoke for my flight simming, and it's awesome.

I purchased this elsewhere , and it has presets for xbox 360 pads etc . Just buy a 360 pad for this . I've owned flight controlls before , but use pads for convenience .

Dude SC Sucks too, buy a joystick or a yoke...
I don't know about you, but I'd hate to know that the pilot of the plane I'm sitting in is flying it using a Steam Controller...

ok, you never tried it...anyway i don`t understand why a great simulator like xplane 11 must be so limitated...... -.-

Honestly, the steam controller would be pretty awsome for Xplane and I'm sad to see in xp11 they STILL don't support xinput. (Can someone confirm that?)

I have the steam controller working in the linux version of xp10, and I use the gyroscope mapped as roll/pitch axes with max haptic feedback and its pretty awesome. Its not as authentic as a true yoke setup of course, but its extremely precise and is a decent enough emulation of a typical GA flight yoke. Adding support for this in windows would open this game and genre up to a lot more players who don't want to fork out for a HOTAS. (Plus, a joystick-style HOTAS isn't really all that realistic of a physical representation of whats in most GA planes anyway).

For this (and other reasons) I won't pick up Xplane 11 until they modernize it a bit. Some things seem stuck in the past... directinput controllers only, no landmarks, etc.

I have exactly the same setup and I've been able to have all the functions on the Hotas & Pedals I want.

What is not working for you?

Hey dude, my post was from over 4-months ago. They seem to have fixed whatever switches/mapping didn`t work 4+months ago for me when I had tried the DEMO.

All the Warthog switches etc works in Aerofly FS2, but I will likely get this sim some time or other; but I don`t like the price of Airports, which are the price of additional States/Country`s [like Switzerland] in HD on Aerofly FS2.

I've tried it, own two, and Xbox controllers too, and it's TERRIBLE for flight sims.

The Steam controller CAN provide inputs to X-plane as a MOUSE yoke... ugh! It does work this way but it is awful.... just like flying with a mouse. Even the Xbox controller works better because it functions as a sort of Joystick if you wish.... but even then ewww!

Joysticks or Flight controls are the way to go as they better approximate what you would do in a real plane.

The problem is not with the sim, but the expectation of a SIMULATOR using controllers meant for more casual style gaming. Simulators by definition are attempting to mimic reality.

Hop in a cessna 172 and tell me where you see the joystick :) The controls are closer to holding a controller with both hands and turning it / rotating it to steer. It all depends what you're flying.

Anyway the issue for me isn't 'controller/gamepad' support, but that they aren't supporting xinput, which is the modern input protocol on windows. It likely won't be too long now before you see joysticks using xinput as well, and Xplane won't be able to use them as-is
