View Distance
Hi all, is it me, or is the view distance for cities totally out of whack? I start in Norwood,MA which is a couple of miles outside of Boston. In FSX, I see can see downtown Boston almost immediately. In XP11, the buildings don't start slowly fading in until I'm literally in the middle of city.

I've messed with all the graphics settings, and even messed with all the settings in the Rendering options for XP11 tool found here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/36925-rendering-options-for-xp11/

If I start IN Boston, at Logan, the city is there, but if I fly IN to Boston there's no city until I'm basically skirting the top of the Prudential building.

wut up man
I know exactly what you mean, and I'm asking the same question. I'm going to find a solution to it - only that it will have to wait for a week as I'm jetting off on holiday today for a week.

Turned up a little more info. Apparently it's not game setting, but a data element on the actual building objects themselves. Two elements to be exact, depending on what kind of object it is:

ATTR_lod 0 4000 - Means this building is visible from 0 to 4km. Increasing the last number will increase the buildings visibility

LOD 0 13000 - Used in facades, but same deal as above

Also found a Q&A post in which someone goes into great detail about it and how to track down the actual objects: http://questions.x-plane.com/9148/there-change-the-draw-distance-radio-towers-city-buildings

So long story short, it involves finding all the correct autogen object files, calculating the correct lod value in km for each one based on the size of the building, and changing one of the above attributes depending on the object type.

Sounds good - I'll give it a go once I'm back home from Ibiza.
