Takes a long time to get right, but it seems to work.
Try seeing if other liveries work - it could be just the one-off.
Is the livery you unpacked for the 737-800 specifically for the default B737?
If so, just head over to your X-Plane 11 root folder, go to Aircraft/Laminar Research OR Extra Aircraft/(Aircraft name)/liveries/then drag and drop the new livery to that folder if you downloaded it.
If you meant creating your own livery and exporting it to X-Plane, I don’t know either, I’ve tried doing it but it still shows the American Airlines livery when I open the simulator.
Download any blank livery, then open the .dds files inside it (fuselage.dds, etc.) and edit it as needed. After that, you just have to save the edited imaged as .png files and delete the original .dds files inside the objects folder.
