X-Plane 11

Fatal error SteamAPI_init() failed. Steam must be running to play this game, help?
The title is the message I get when trying to start XP11. I've tried what seems to be every solution under the sun.
I have tried:
1. Running steam as admin
2. Running XP11 as admin with steam closed, and open and not as admin as well.
3. Reinstalling XP11 twice
4. Verfying cache
5. Restarting my computer and steam at same time
6. Combatibility mode as W7, vista and 8. (I am on windows 10)
7. Ran through steam interface and outside
Nothing seems to work and I'm getting tired of reading solutions over and overr that have not worked. Anyone know what to do? I'm thinking of reinstalling steam, but damn, thats alot. Thanks.

You created a shortcut to the x-plane 11 execution file on your desktop didn't you? Don't do that, just run it through the steam interface.

Yes I created a shortcut automatically, but I have tried running through interface and outside and neither works. Get same result.

What should I look for in firewall?
Try verifying the integrity of your game files.

How many firewalls do you have? I turn off windows firewall and use my antivirus firewall instead.

The only time I received that API message is when I went into the xp11 folder and tried to start it with its executable file instead of through the steam interface.

Hey all. Contacted steam support. They had no idea what to do. I have tried all of the suggestions provided I even reinstalled steam. I finally refunded my game and downloaded XP11 from the website. Thanks for trying though guys but I don't think there is a solution on the face of the earth to that issue lol

Previous reports of this involve the user either having the demo version installed or previously installed or the downloaded version from Laminar.

Remove the other versions, uninstall the Steam version, then look for and delete any remaining Xplane 11 folders and registry entries, reboot and re-install only the Steam version.

My issue was that I was launching a shortcut that wasn't tied to Steam properly. Ensure the shortcut is a genuine Steam one - you can create one in the Steam properties.
