Xsquawkbox not working
Hi fellow virtual pilots,

I was wondering.. anyone using Xsquawkbox over here?

My issue: Dropped the Xsquawkbox map into the resources/Plugins map but the plugin won't show up in XP 11. Am I missing something here?

Cheers.

Just a map? You need the win.xpl or mac.xpl or lin.xpl in there somewhere. That's the core of any plugin. Unless it isn't compatible with X-Plane 11 yet, but I haven't seen much of it.

Hi Draco,

those xpl files are part of the map! Other plugins seem to work. I'm pretty clueless. I'd like to fly online (Vatsim) using X-Plane 11 and xSquawkbox.

Doesn't Sqwakbox use XUIPC? Make sure you have that as that may be the problem.

Oi! Haven't installed XUIPC yet indeed. Man, been using the Microsoft Flight Simulator for +- 17 years now. X-Plane is something else, love the lightning and general feel of the sim (Pretty impressive out of the box). Just bought some scenery add-ons while P3D is staring at me.. :)

Glad to hear you are enjoying it. When I made the switch it wasn't 100% until I picked up a few addons(Flight Factor 757 being the first major aircraft buy. Plus it took me a bit to discover the high potential of freeware addons for it) and absolutely adored it.

Cheers Sunset. Been reading about the FF 757, seems impressive indeed. I know this has probably been asked a hundred before on this forum but hey..

What are the must have add-ons in your opinion? Are most XP-10 add-ons compatible with XP-11?

Most are compatible however some will have issues. I have rarely run into any issues though. The only addons which game me trouble were the FF 757(Before it was update the stickshaker was constantly on, drove me nuts), ground services(Not the JAR Ground Handling one), one airport scenery which I encountered yesterday(MMMX had an issue where everything including taxiways and runways was treated as rough terrain) and another one I can't remember. Everything else worked without any issue.

The must have ones that I own are the IXEG 737, FF 757, Rotate MD-80, JAR design A320, HD scenery Mesh v3, Multicrew Experience, RC4toXplane(Requires owning Radar Contact 4), and HD Airport Scenery to name a few.

There is another few must haves which I am conflicted about. I have Skymaxx v3 and real weather connector, but I'm not sure if I should upgrade to Skymaxx v4 or get xEnviro.

Anyway this is just a few of what I own and what I want, there are definitely others out there that I really want or others that I love already.

Edit: Also a good flight planner called EFASS is a must have imo. It is free for a limitation of waiting about 2 minutes to use it after starting it(I'm an impatient person, I bought it lol), but it is pretty great. Though there are definitely other great ones, this one is just my favorite.

Really appreciate your reply! I will take a look at all those add-ons. Was wondering about the weather indeed, read a couple of xEnviro reviews. They haven't got me convinced yet. Especially the "too blue" sky textures and blue water reflections got me worried. Could you compare Skymaxx v3 to lets say an Active Sky Next?

Is there an Orbx Global'esque add-on for X-Plane?

Never thought I'd be this excited about X-Plane lol..

ASN is far better than Skymaxx v3 imo. Excluding the visuals(For clouds), the effects for weather is not as good as what is found in ASN. You'd have to look at more detailed comparisons or reviews for that as they do a far better job than me.

Never really looked for an Orbx Global alternative as I found the autogen paired with the HD mesh(Which has superior textures) to be on par with Orbx Global.

Now there is a tool out there called FSX2Xplane which I forgot to mention as a must have. This tool allows you to convert scenery for FSX to Xplane. I've done so for a few like KSEA and KMCO and it is amazing.

I feel the same about xEnviro. It isn't fully convincing due to the price, but it is the best weather addon we have for the time being. For a more advanced free weather program I would recommend the NOAA plugin(Definitely not on ASN level, but much better than the default).

Cheers Sunset, very comprehensive. HD Mesh comes with textures too? Just downloaded FSX2plane, seems promising.

Do you use Real Terra Haze with XP-11?

PS: Managed to get Squawkbox to work.

Yep, there is also a few more programs out there like Ortho4XP that produce even better textures(Don't expect it to cover the who world though, not only does it take a long time to create the textures, but it also creates very large file sizes).

I used to, but I got fed up with FlyWithLua at one point and got rid of them both. I'll be giving it another go though as I really enjoyed the visuals.
