How do you use the autopilot?
I have tried the 737, 747 and the others and cannot figure out how to use the autopilot so that i can change altitudes and set speed consitantly.

In FSX the autopilot is very simple and straight forward and it works. but in xplane i dont see any option for setting FD to auto, i cant get altitude to work right, its a real pain in the butt in this game. I am sure i am misssing something but if someone can explain how autopilot works, what buttons to push and where they are, would be appreciated.

You need to flick the two little switches on the left and right of the autopilot. These turn on autopilot A and B.
You also need to turn on A/T arm to enable autothrottle. Then plug in a speed, and click the SPEED button.
To turn the flight director on, there are 4 buttons arranged in a square above a disengage switch towards the right. Click the top left one, CMD A. This will activate the flight director and fly your chosen course.

He's right though in my humble opinion. I don't know if it's a generation thing but so many do not lke to read the PDF manuals and watch YouTube videos. Maybe it's this, 'Attention Span', thing that's often talked about.

It's the first thing I do with a new product, get stuck into the manual, watch tons of videos and then open my Sim and practice.

Asking for help and advice is one thing but just being plain ignorant of many things that are set out in black and white in the manual or found through watching the thousands of YouTube videos is not excusable.

Some guys still fumble threw maps and still won’t get out of the car to ask for directions. By the way they are still lost. Thank god there are discussions where smart people can ask questions, without feeling lost and stupid. Keep up the great work you guys are doing by being helpful, nice, & considerate.

But they always get there eventually. At least these people you speak of can still read maps, unlike today where people are relying on their satnavs which often take them down a one-way street or to a dead-end. :steammocking:

It's becoming an even more generational thing. I've watched live streams with game developers much less players, and they fire up DLC for the first time which SPECIFICALLY says READ THE PDF FIRST (the warning actually displays on screen DURING the live stream) and they ignore it, spending hours fumbling through complex trains, aircraft, etc.instead of doing their homeword off screen and reading the manual for an hour. Sad really.
