2D Panels, where to find ? HELP
Hi there,

I do know that 2D panels are out of date, but for me it is so much greater in using them ingame, as these 3D panels. I was used to them, and even to open windows like in FSX, seems not to work in Xplane 11.

I am really lost, and would love to know, if I can get custom 2D panels for my 737-800 or my Chessna Sky.

I saw, I can make 2D panels in the Airplane Maker, but for now, I have not the great time to make them myself.

Does ANYONE know where I can find these panels, ore Instrument windows so I can just fly in my old fashion way.

Thanks for your help

Regards NE

You will need to install a plane that has them. Take a look around at x-plane.org in the file downloads section. There's a large selection of planes that are free to download, and many of them have 2d panels.

i had exactly the same feel and thought several years ago when i have switched from FSX to Xplane 9, at first glance i found being inside a 3d cockpit annoying, barely flyable/usable and nearly gave up just as you.

But, i had to force myself to get used to it; the frustration you are experiencing now is because once you are thrown inside xplane as a new user, there is no intuitive guides neither tutorials explaining you how to navigate inside a 3d cockpit and thats why you feel lost and don't know how to position yourself or how to reach this or that section of the cockpit inside its 3d environement.

so i have explored further the matter, and i had to find the way by myself how to properly navigate inside the 3d cockpit by assigning custom key commands (not the unintuitive and horrible ones that are set by default) - it was not an easy task.

i got inspired from similar moving key commands that are used in 3d FPS games and assigned similar controls to the numeric keypad in xplane in order to move up, down, left, right, forward and backwards , by adding the mouse to control the 'head movement' and using the mousewheel to zoom in/out to a particular spot / switch or a button. -thats in '3d Cockpit view" mode

i got rapidly used to it and now i swear only by 3d cockpits., -i don't even want to know what's "new and good" out there for that defunct FSX frankensim and don't even want to hear talking about 2d panels (lol).

Xplane is a powerful and highly customizable simulator; furthermore, you will find no equal in depth of simulation and realism than the currently top end addon aircraft products that are available only for xplane.

I recommend to reconsider your decision and give it another try.

Regarding 2D-panels, I have a fresh installation of X-Plane 11 and started a flight with the B-52 (I don´t remember if XP11 came with it or if I migrated it from my XP10).
But there´s no panel, not in the default view, not when I switch to 2D panel view, not on my second display which is set to "show 2d panel".
I also tried creating a 2D panel for the standard Cessna 172 - it doesn´t show.
Is this a bug?
I´m mainly interested in it to properly use the second monitor on my desk without third-party software.

The thing is, if you want separate windows so you can have out of the windshield views separate from the panel, you need a 2-d panel view. When I tried to make my "panel" monitor for 2d, none of the planes have it. The message says "Set it to 3d and adjust the display to see the panel" or something. Tried it... worthless. 1. It forced the setting panel on the monitor i was adjusting.
It cannot be dragged to another monitor, so it completely covers the display, so I could not compensate. After getting it in the ball park to even test it, it was still tied to the other monitors meaning that they all pan together... worthless. FS was doing this properly more than a decade ago. Multi monitor support was implemented very poorly in X-plane. It is clunky and hard to use.
