How do I fly using the keyboard?
Is there any way I can use the keyboard to control the aircraft instead of using the mouse? I find the mouse very uncomfortable for flying. I have mostly been using microsoft flight simulator and flying with the keyboard. I don't have a joystick either.

Surely there must be a mod or something to do this?

A joystick will solve all, unfortunately. But for now, you can set rudder left/right (need to set custom binds), elevator trim using [ and ], rudder trim using 5 and 7 (6 to reset) and 8 and 0 for aileron trim (9 to reset). Of course, even basic pilots flying real planes don't use a mouse or a keyboard, which is why I highly recommend picking one up. A nice, simple one will set you back just £35, or you could wait a year and let brexit put it up to £70-odd.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I know the joystick is the best and I love using it, but I think its downright unacceptable that a video game (even a simulator) doesn't have the option of using a keyboard when its so easy for the developers to implement it in LOL

I'm learning to use a mouse for pitch and steering while using keyboard for throttle and rudder.

Clunky, but it works.

The mouse gets really sensitive at high speeds so I try to fly-by-autopilot and leave the mouse work for take off and landing where I'm typically (not always!) at a slower speed.

This is an old post, but it comes up on my Google search, so I thought I would add to it for the next person. I also wanted to fly XP11 with my laptop keyboard only (for trips and situations where I don't have a joystick). I was finally able to do this with a mod called BetterMouseYoke. It's a small, simple mod, that turns the mouse/trackpad into an easy to use yoke. The sensitivity is just right, unlike the default steering option. It also allows for rudder control. It's a lifesaver!
