For any game with crossplay matchmaking there needs to be some kind of account system that lives across all platforms (for those that were around in the KO city days we started with an EA Origin account, and we migrated to Epic when we self-published).
This was the obvious one given that we're crossplay with PS5 and Steam -- Even if someone on Steam turns off crossplay, we're still matchmaking based on PSN IDs, and avoiding it would require making multiple matchmaking systems (and for a small team, we'd much rather have those folks working on cool new features for the game for everyone to enjoy 🙂 )
EA Origin caused a bunch of weird problems on my computer. I was happy to be rid of it. Not crazy about Epic either, but it's no-fuss, at least.
I feel weird about using a PSN account after they had two major data breaches and a history of customer service issues with me personally (including multiple log-in and verification issues). And the Helldivers II stuff...
Basically, it's not a gamer-issue-of-the-week for me. Someone gifted me a Knockout City dodgeball at a con, and bringing that up, another friend mentioned this game coming out, which I had no idea about! But the PSN thing... On top of my own resistance, two friends of mine (that own Chonkies!) said, "No thanks!"
Not sharing this as if I expect the whole trajectory of your business relationships to change through this response, etc, but I felt compelled to share.
I guess they care more about the money than players actually playing their game.
I won't make a PSN account, PSN is unsafe. I'll add your game to my ignore list now, bye.
We have a LAN setup for 8 computers but I really can't create a separate PlayStation account for each play (we already HAVE separate steam accounts)
