Crash Fixes Related to Corrupt Save Files | [Line:729], [Line:68], [Line:768], [Line:138]
Load Game Button Crash (Slot.sav)

If the game crashes when you click the "Load Game" button on the Main Menu, it likely means one of your save files is corrupted. To fix this, start by going to your save folder, opening the most recent folder, and deleting the Slot.sav file inside. Launch the game and try loading it again. If it no longer crashes, the corrupted file has been removed. If it crashes again, restore the deleted Slot.sav file and repeat this process with the next folder.

To find your save files, you can copy this:

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\ContractVille\Saved\SaveGames
Then paste it in the File Explorer. Press enter and the folder with your save files should be opened.

In rare cases, multiple save files may be corrupted. If you've checked each folder and the game still crashes, delete all Slot.sav files at once and attempt to load the game. If this stops the crash, restore the files one by one, testing each by loading the game. Keep any files that cause crashes in the Recycle Bin.

Once you've identified and deleted the corrupted save, replace it with a Slot.sav file from another folder created for the same game world (Auto-Save1 for example, provided that it is not corrupted). Copy this file and paste it into the folder where you removed the corrupted save. After completing these steps, the game should load successfully.

Important Notes
  • If you can't access your SaveGames folder, follow these steps.[support.microsoft.com]
  • After applying the changes mentioned above to your save files, if Steam alerts you to a conflict between your local and cloud save data, opt to overwrite the cloud data with your local files. Alternatively, you can disable cloud saving to prevent the cloud from overwriting your local files with corrupted data.

----------

Check Button Crash in the Planner UI (Default_ _PlanningSaveGame_C)

If the game crashes when you click the "Check" button in the Planner UI, this is often due to the corrupted Default__PlanningSaveGame_C file.

To find your save file, you can copy this:

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\ContractVille\Saved\SaveGames

Then paste it in the File Explorer. Press enter and the folder with your save files should be opened.

(Please note that following the step below will delete all of your planner saves.)

Delete the Default__PlanningSaveGame_C file within this folder to resolve the issue.

----------

Crash During the Loading Screen (TutorialSave)

If the game crashes during the loading screen, first try deleting the TutorialSave file.

To find your save file, you can copy this:

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\ContractVille\Saved\SaveGames

Then paste it in the File Explorer. Press enter and the folder with your save files should be opened.

(Please note that following the step below will delete all of your character progression.)

If the issue persists and you don’t face any problems while loading and playing other saved games except for this specific one, unfortunately, the progression in this save file may be lost, the Level.sav save file, which is crucial for saving and loading almost all gameplay elements, might be causing the issue. Proceed to delete the Level.sav file. However, you can also switch to a recent Auto-Save file (Auto-Save1 for example, provided that it is not corrupted), which will allow you to continue with minimal loss of progression.

Crash After the Splash Screen (Default_ _BP_SG_GameSettings_C & GameSettings_SaveSlot)

(Please note that following the step below will reset all of your in-game settings.)

If the game crashes after the FiftyEight Studios splash screen or after applying any game settings you modified, try deleting the Default__BP_SG_GameSettings_C and GameSettings_SaveSlot files.

To find your save file, you can copy this:

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\ContractVille\Saved\SaveGames

Then paste it in the File Explorer. Press enter and the folder with your save files should be opened.
