What do you do with leftover stuff? Broken toys from second mission.
Boxed up all the broken stuff from the bedroom, but now what? Went to the pawn shop but they wouldn't buy it (had to try, lol) but other than that I don't know what to do with it. Leave it on the yellow pad by the house?

Thank you for reaching out with your question. You have a couple of options for dealing with broken or damaged items:
  • You can sell them to the Pawn Shop for a profit. Please note that the Pawn Shop will not accept these items if the mission is still active, so be sure to complete the mission before attempting to sell them.
  • You can use the Demolish tool to dispose of them as trash to potentially combine similar types of trash to create non-recycled boxes.

I had the same question a couple of days ago and couldn't find the answers anywhere. I didn't think to post my question here (thanks bicZoid), but I eventually figured out how to properly sell the items after completion of the mission. Just wanted to make a suggestion: it would be great if there was a way we could repair these items (maybe a hammer tool being added for repairs?). If items could be repaired we could potentially sell them to the pawn shop for more money or reuse these items for future jobs, etc. Just a thought!

Good ideas! Especially since once we complete the mission those items become ours to do what we want with them. Fixing them up and having the ability to either sell them or keep them in inventory in case we can use them later:

Overall, this seems like a very bizarre mechanic. If I leave old items boxed-up in the house, I get dinged on fame and experience. If I leave them outside, I get billed for them (theft). Can't sell them at the pawn shop (not my $#!+)--which seems like the best choice since you'll need the cash to buy the new stuff the homeowner demands. If a contractor came into my house and started whacking my furniture with a sledgehammer instead of removing them as asked, I'd probably run to the neighbor's and call the cops!

old furniture?
sorry guys just curious is there a way to fix old furniture u take from peoples houses to get more profit from them? or is it better just to dump/sell to pawn in the broken/damaged state

I used to go to the pawn shop but I realized it makes no sense. I asked myself if I am better off trashing it, so I decided to check it out. I checked how much 3 different pieces of furniture were worth at the pawn shop. I was going to get $30, $42, and $73 respectively. Then I trashed them. The 2 smaller furniture items advanced one of the bins by 1 unit, and the larger piece of furniture advanced 2 different bins by one unit each. Then knowing that it takes 5 units of trash to get one box of recycled waste and it takes 4 boxes at the compressor to get 1 condensed box, I did some math :). Mixed (black) Trash sells at $120 each but condensed items are sold as follows per condensed :

Metal $4800 divided by 4 boxes needed = $1200 divided by 5 units of trash = $240
Paper $4200 divided by 4 boxes needed = $1050 divided by 5 units of trash = $210
Glass $4500 divided by 4 boxes needed = $1125 divided by 5 units of trash = $225
Plastic $3900 divided by 4 boxes needed = $975 divided by 5 units of trash = $195

So essentially, anything that the pawn shop offers you less than approx. $200, you are better off trashing. Probably you are always better off trashing, even when offered more as more valued items tend to produce more waste bin units. E.g. for a larger 3 seater sofa that the pawn shop was going to give me $353 (due to a high damage penalty), when I trashed it, it gave me 1 unit of trash ($120), 2 of glass ($450), 3 of paper ($630), 1 of metal ($240) and 2 of plastic ($390). So when sold as condensed I got the equivalent of $1790 instead of the $353 I was offered at the pawn shop. So I made a profit of $1437 for trashing instead of selling at the pawn shop.

My Pawn shops have closed shop in my save as no business from me since I got my compressor :p.

Curious if others found cases when its better to go to pawn shop?

Interesting! Thanks!

I updated my earlier post with a large item comparison between the pawn shop and trashing and trashing wins big time.
