Help; how do I connect the TRAILER to my car?

I have only succeeded in connecting it by hand once. But I can't do it again, the trailer slips through the towing hook.
Is there any other way than manually?

Once you're properly aligned, you can press the "X" key by default to attach the trailer. ok so not seeing this "press x" option pop up... been tryin to hook up this frackin trailer. am I missing something?
