Fatal Frame 1 and 2 are both available for $4 a piece on PS3 as part of PSN's "PS2 Classics" category.

Both offer (potentially) superior gameplay, depending on your tastes, and have a playtime of between 8-12 hours each. They both also have a fair degree of replay value, if you're into collecting costumes, bonus items, and higher difficulty settings.

Fatal Frame 3 is $10, but it's a considerably longer game and, in my opinion, the best of the three.

Fatal Frame, if you're unaware, is the long-running Japanese horror series that served as inspiration for this title. If you haven't played it, I highly suggest picking one (or all of them) up. Dreadout is largely aimed at veterans of said series looking for more of a similar premise, since Tecmo chose not to localize Fatal Frame 4, and there's a likelihood that we won't see 5 in the west either.

Fatal Frame is the reason why I am getting this game, I love horror games like these. Whether I get a lot of content or not, I still will gladly give them my money just to support them and hopefully they release more games like these, cuz to be honest last time I got scared playing a game was w/ Fatal Frame 10+ years ago.

We need more games like these and like Silent Hill, hopefully Evil Within will be like it and not like RE.
Fatal frame 1 or 2 where both 50 dollar games when they came out. Even now if you where to buy a used copy they still run up there in terms of price. Crimson Butterfly was the best one!!!!!
The first act took me 2 hours to beat with looking up how to get farther in the game. Being a HUGE fangirl of the Fatal Frame series I thought this would be a good game to try. I liked it. I wish it was longer but for it being a indie game, I really enjoyed the game. One thing I appreciate about Fatal Frame is how the game gives you details and stories about the ghosts you're encountering; Dreadout does the same. I like the little details people put into games. I do hope that part 2 is LONGER but if it can tie up the game nicely within two hours.. What's the deal then? I don't mind the price I paid for the game. I would rather help a company put a nice game out then another Resident Evil 6 (Where I paid $60 and didn't feel I got my moneys worth).
Btw, I can beat Fatal Frame 1 & 2 in about 4 hours. As long as a game has replay value, I don't mind the cost! :)
Definitely not worth the asking price right now then. I'll wait.
With that said, looking up to farther in the game...couch act 1 & 2 is on release
These statements are shocking. It's entirely possible to beat Metal Gear Solid 1 and Residet Evil 4 in LESS time than it takes to finish this game on a regular playthrough, and I, and many others, consider both those games two of the best linear games to date.

This isn't even considering the fact that cinema tickets cost almost as much as the price of this game, yet theatrical showings are often less than just two hours.
I beat the game in 3 hours but I didn't explored much of the city at night, so there are secrets to be found for me.
The game is really good. It isn't perfect (optimization due to Unity, freezes when loading textures), but the gameplay is very cool. It's like Fatal Frame, but a little simplified, but it changes because I used to kill exorcise japanese ghosts since Fatal Frame 1, and I didn't know anything about the Indonesian folklore.
There are so many details into the game that it's worth the try.

13 euros isn't too much asking for this kind of game. This is a real survival-horror, not a crappy Action game who pretends to be horrific. You have a real experience into it.
People need to understand that they blindly pay a lot of money for an AAA title that lasts the same amount of game time.

I don't say you can't find a longer game, but saying the game isn't worth the price is just ridiculous.

I don't mind being able to only play Act I, if this is an episodic title, so be it. The Walking Dead is also an episodic title. So you gladly pay 25 dollars for this game even if you know that you have to wait an undefined amount of time to be able to play the next episode ?

This is an indie company we're talking about. Plus, they perfectly understand what is the definition of Survival-Horror, so I'm proud of paying to play the game. And if I wasn't so lazy, I could back the game when it was still on Indiegogo.
If the game isn't finished as stated in the thread it should be labeled early access.

Also I'm disappointed in anyone with a decent PC not playing their physical copies of Fatal Frame via emulation.
10 minutes? You need 10 minutes just to get to the first enemy...

I agree that the Fatal Frame games area good value. Play them, come back, play Dreadout.

Also give the developers some time to learn. Just like Fatal Frame 1 was a pretty rough game I hope for an even better Dreadout 2.

Would you consider Walking Dead or Wolves Among Us Early Access?

Got that right. I love Fatal Frame 1, but it has so many flaws. Never forget how cheap some of the ghosts in the first FF were, and how too many puzzles were that tile-swapping puzzle to open doors.
Couldn't care how long it lasts for, happily support an indie developer that is ballsy enough to make a Fatal Frame type game.

Also typical whinge, whinge, whinge, what a surprise.

I bet half of you have bought AAA games for $60 that barely last 10 hours.
I spent more time playing this than I did Broken Age and that has been split into two parts as well. You will find heaps more secrets on a second play through.

Guys, saying part 2 is free and all wont help this game. Then its 2 hours for 13 bucks instead of 1 hour for 13 bucks. Its overpriced as ♥♥♥♥, this game is a little minigame, this is shorter than certain mod projects and does not deserve to be on steam, end of story.

The game is not just 1h long for part 1. I took 3h or so to finish it the first time, and I haven't explored everything and found every secret.
In these games, if you know what do do, you can pretty much fiish them very quickly (I remember finishing silent hill 3 in less than 1h or so when i knew every step to take).
You can get a lot of playtime in DreadOut as long as you don't spoil yourself.

I do agree the game should be longer (like, why not force the player to explore the city AT NIGHT before going to the school? could add quite a bit of playtime.), but even so, I'm ok with what I paid and what I got.
