outlast is ovverated, its not real horror, western horror is too based on easy jump scares and blood everywhere, dreadout is many atmosphere like fatal frame.

I agree outlast scared the crap out of me
Outlast was a good but was not scary at all. Unless your a 16 year old cheer leader with tiny bongos. Or a nerd covered in spots who is scared ov his own shadow :/

It was more so the concept of Outlast I found scary while playing, the anxiety of having something chase you and trying to hide, also the atmosphere of the mental institution lol

DreadOut actually keeps me on edge(and I find it a little difficult to get into with some of the glitches that lurk)

Whoever said that this game is better than Outlast because it has no jump scares has never played this game. The ENTIRE game is jump scares. Literally from the very first time you hit "New Game" until the end.

No offense, but I think you're confusing jumpscares with creepy foreboding atmosphere?
Not very scary.

Yah. There aren't real jumpscares in this game since you're always have a hint of what is coming (something that was lost when they got the main Fatal Frame idea). It is a sweet ride with the feeling of something crawling below your skin!

The fun (and thrill) in eastern Terror is the feeling that you know something is wrong, it is something supernatural (you can fight most of the natural things, but how to handle a supernatural situation) and you don't have a way to go back without confronting it.

Last, there is a huge difference between the concepts of horror and terror: from the academical point of view, the difference between Terror and Horror is the difference between awful apprehension and sickening realization: between the smell of death and stumbling against a corpse.

If you expand it to movies/games, terror is the kind of game/movie where the ambient makes you feel afraid, even if they can't hurt you (it is proven that you can die from it). Horror normally doesn't need the ambient because it tries to make you feeling bad using gore and such.

Some games and videos step up and mix both elements, but one of them is always predominant. Outlast is one of these examples where the ambient is already creepy enough, but there are much more gore involved to make you feel sick than the idea of being closed on a sanatorium (in fact, you can always leave the sanatorium and leave it there).

So, pick your poison. I'm a bit old now and I don't see fun in pure gore, so I really prefer games like Dreadout, FF and most Silent Hill than games like Outlast (which I loved each step, including the DLC and waiting for Outlast 2) or most Resident Evil (loved the RE7 demo, welcome to the family!).

Outlast was just as creepy as Dreadout is. Maybe not in the same ways as Dreadout is but to me equally as creepy. But more to the point, Dreadout is a lot like Fatal Frame which is one of the main reasons why I purchased the game. Also the soundtrack as the game is playing just adds to the creepiness that already exists within the game.

I already finished Dreadout act 0, 1 and 2 for about 7 times and I still got a goosebumps sometime. This game has a lot of easter egg and hidden achievement. If you play it 1st time you'll probably get confused by the puzzle (because this game is clueless, the objectives given aren't good enough to lead you solve puzzle). So I recommend you to get some guide from the forum or watch youtube to get a better experience in this game.
How scary is this game? I think the creepiest part of this game is it brings a full-creepy atmosphere with a soul-killing backsound. Of course try playing this game with maximum sound and minimum brightness :P
