I´m glad they decided to add it to the main game because once you purchase a game on Steam, the Demo button at the store page disappears, and the content becomes inaccessable.
Act 0 works like a tutorial; but I would suggest you have a look at the pdf manual as it is really good at explaining the game mechanics in a minimalistic way.
The ghost that jumped you, was it outside or in a building?
The pregnant lady who follows you from the beginning can be defeated with the phone; the next ghost encounter in the building introduces the concept of Limbo and can´t be avoided, just run towards the light.
Im only a few minutes in. First, I got the phone, saw the ghost in the camera and then headed outside, I saw my friend (Well prob. not) walk into the alley, I followed her and then I got to a dead end, when I turned around a ghost jumped in my face. Then i walked the other way and got to the playground, nothing is happening.
You are stuck because you didn´t find the door to the next area yet. Explore the dead end and notice how the screen changes slightly (vignette, they call it iirc). This is a hint that something can be discovered near you. Use the phone, spot the difference.
If you start the game again, you can see her (through the phone) waiting in the fenced area near the little shack you woke up in. The easiest approach would be to run into the small alley your friend took, then turn around and wait for the ghost. A yellow screen distortion indicates vulnerability. Taking three pictures should be enough, if she comes too close you can walk backwards and keep firing.
