Black screen with a window 'dreadout' at launch [solved]

If I click it, I get the message 'dreadout.exe stopped working', and thre program closes

I tried a number of things to fix it, and one worked eventually. I went to the properties of the game in Steam, unchecked 'sync with Cloud', then deleted the 'cloud' folder in the game's 'common' files.
