Also, utility spells are still great. Even if you're a melee user. +15% attack/mattack damage is nothing to scoff at. Neither is the attack speed buff. Also the one that puts a sword on top of a target and fills up a meter as you hit them would also be very good for a one-handed character, as it deals a massive amount of damage to a target when it's filled.
One that i find is really good is the fish hat you get from mount blood fishing quests.
Most builds will have roughly around equal damage usually. It's more about play-style than output. There are some exceptions though.
For example, I made a two-handed attack speed character that uses hybrid stats (both attack and magic attack), and uses a wand weapon (The Winter Knight lance to be specific, which gives both attack and magic attack). The lance shoots a projectile weapon like a wand, so I can still do decent damage both up close and from far away, giving me the utility of reach, and because I attack fast, I can rack up a lot of damage quickly, and skill usage is very fast, allowing for very quick, high damage burst.
Using the beserker skill, you can have a lot of energy regeneration from hitting foes, as well as because you are hitting them *very* fast. This allows the use of being able to apply a lot of buffs to yourself, and still be able to spam skills.
For this build to work though, you need attack speed. A LOT of attack speed. When everything is set up, (attack speed buff, attack speed potion, beserker stacks, etc), my character has around 340% attack speed, which is ridiculously high.
Don't forget that pets are a thing in Secrets of Grindea. Feeding them food just outright gives you stats when the pet is equipped. My pet for attack speed gives me around 130% extra speed, which takes a *lot* of money to buy the food or time spent fishing.
At level 26, I have:
Heroric slam: LV 10
Whirlwind: Lv 5
Beserker Style: Lv 7 (You want to get this to level 10).
Also in utility, I have Empower, Haste and Barrier at level 3, and Blink at level 1 (will get that to 3).
As for talents, there's a lot to get that benefit you since both attack and magic attack help, as well do potions, and chaining multiple buffs together, and being able to hit fast..... aside from summon or archery talents, there's really no wrong answer.
