Forge Quest - a voxel top down ARPG that supports online multiplayer
Gauntlet - a series of levels for 1-4 players (supports online, I think), characters can be upgraded; top-down twin-stick, not really any rpg elements
Helldivers - top down twin-stick shooter, random missions, upgrade-able characters, online, local, and online+local play, no rpg elements to speak of other than upgrades
Sacred 3 - top down twin-stick rpg with local (and maybe online) multiplayer, not much free-roaming, but I believe characters can be upgraded
Unepic - a metroidvania rpg that upports online multiplayer
Forge Quest is the only one that pretty well fits the bill, but you might find some interest in the others. Sorry a lot of those aren't quite "it", but good ARPGs aren't made often, much less ones with any kind of multiplayer.
