Direct3d 11 Compute Shaders fatal error
Hello - I just installed the game, and when I try to launch it, I get a "Direct3d 11 Compute Shaders are not available" fatal error, so I cannot play. I do have DirectX 11 installed, with the 3d accelerator capability enabled. Beyond that, I don't know any technical details.

Any thoughts on what I can do to get past this and play?

I also get this error. I just spent good money on this game that claims to be Windows VIsta and DirectX 9 compatible, so what's the deal here? If you cannot run on a fully updated Vista system then you need to refund my money!

You need a Direct3D 11 compatible GPU to run the game. If you have NVIDIA it would need to be 400 series or newer, 5000 series or newer for a AMD, and 4000 series or newer for Intel.

And unless you spell that out in the minimum requirements, how is an average computer user supposed to know that before purchasing the game?? All your requirements specify is DirectX 11, nothing about GPU requirements.

My video card is Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT - and according to its system info, is running DirectX 11 as required. How am I supposed to figure out from that if it is newer or older than a "400 series" or what the differences or dependencies are. Do you expect only video hardware gurus are your customers?

I'm not about to go buy a new computer just to run your game, so I need to know how to get a refund, you are NOT going to keep my money!

thank you, Corngood. I have a Dell Studio laptop running Windows 7, and when I look under System Devices in the Device Manager, I don't see a reference to a GPU like you mention above.

How can I rectify this, other than buying a new laptop? If I can't, I'm just going to have to wait until your Xbox version comes out, so how can I process a refund on this PC version?

thanks...

The minimum specs say "DX11 compatible video card". I do wish there was a more painless way of testing the requirements before buying the game though.

You'll need to contact steam support about a refund.

An easy way to get info about the GPU is to run 'dxdiag' from the start menu, and look in the display tab. If you let me know what it says in there I can tell you for sure if it's d3d11 or not.

Thanks

thanks - I ran dxdiag and it shows an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series, and since I do have Direct3D enabled, it must be compatible in some way, of course. I'm not sure what Direct3D acceleration actually is, and I do admit it's about 5 years old at this point, too. Maybe I'm just out of luck for now? I love the architect features, so look forward to it at some point.

Yeah, Radeon didn't support d3d11 until the 5000 series unfortunately.

I have the same problem, although I wasnt surprised as I know it's a good looking game and that I have a well below par GPU. Updating my GPU tomorrow to a GTX 770 - only coincedently, I wouldnt do it specifically for a game I've never played.

I have just purchased the game tonight and have run into the same problem. I have run the dxdiag to check the spec - what exactly should I be looking for? The "device" under the display tab is a Mobile Intel (R) series Express Chipset family, which I suspect you will tell me is 5 years out of date!!

Thanks very much
im not a huge comp guy i got this comp a year ago and in the graphics department it says ati radeon hd 4200 but it also says amd athlon im guessing it means its amd 4200? and if thats the case im screwed right?

Yeah, unfortunately the radeon 4000 series is only d3d 10.1
