The beauty of this game is, like RL golf, there are no tricks... as far as tips I am sure, just as RL golf, you can recieve many tips but as to whether or not they work for your game and the way you play it is up for grabs. There are a few things that can help ya though.
1... auto generate your own course then, as you play it, you can take as many mulligians/redo any and all shots so you can learn your swing and the effects of your swing.
2..... know how the putting mechinics work in the game

If you are using a wired xbox 360 controller, which is currently the most optimized controller, I found, to my utter amazement, that I do better using the left analog stick swing. I have always swung with my right hand, but I think becasue of the way the thumb rests more nturally in an up-and-down position on the left stick on the 360 game pad, I tend to swing straighter.

Start off with easy courses to get used to the gameplay....power of putting, chips etc. I suggest little brook manor. Have fun :)
