Cheap tactics for the GSV?
So,i've almost beaten the game but the final part of "Finish the fight" is becoming frustrating.I maxed my hacking skill and lowered the difficulty to casual.Nothing to do. The rate of fire of the GSV is riducusly high as is its damage.I've tried like 50 times, the closest i got to kill it,it had 7% of its health, this best attempt toke me many minutes and my in the end hands were hurting, having had to go around that bastard for so long.Spammer doesn't work, pulsewave seems to do no damage, only the primary do something (little). Is there something i'm doing wrong? Is there some very cheap tactic to beat it?

I think sniped it from a distance before it became active (no hacking skill at all). But that was probably only possible because my Linux version makes black holes not draw me towards their centres. So if I had to constantly move to not get pulled into a black hole, then I guess I couldn't have slowly whittled that thing down by having my puny shots slink through the rotating armour shields.

In a replay of the game I also did it the 'proper' way, circle-strafing with maxed Hacking skill. But still without working black holes.

Locking your hp with cheatengine comes to mind, but I never have to do those things with this game myself. Just to be clear, by maxed the hacking skill, did you mean you maxed the AR skill below, or the hacking above that grant your multiple weapon projectiles?

Both

How close are you when you circle around the GSV? As close as possible, so you're as fast as possible compared to the speed of the GSV's spinning stream of shots? And are you using a mouse and keyboard? I imagine it would be a lot more difficult with a controller, but I could be wrong about that.

I was circling around it as close as possible and ended up smashing myself on the force fields (I don't know how to call them) a couple of times (that's how I died in my best attempt). I am using a Xbox 360 controller

Well, I guess an Xbox 360 controller isn't suitable for the task, because with a mouse and keyboard I did it in the first attempt, and I'm not very good at action games. And I don't think the pull from the black holes is that strong close to the GSV? I just figured the pull would be enough to ruin the precise positioning I used to snipe it from a distance, since that would also be closer to the black holes at the edges.

But wait, I haven't seen any blackholes in the room, maybe there aren't in the Enhanced Edition?(Which i'm playing). If you swtch controls to mouse + keyboard how do you move around in cyberspace? With mouse moving or arrow keys?

No black holes? Okay, then perhaps those were in the other GSV fight and I just misremember. And if there are no black holes, just clear the outer edges of the room until everything that's not the GSV is dead, and then slowly sneak up on the GSV (I did it from the lower right side of it). Just as you can make out its rotating armour shields, stop at a place between the force field walls and sit there and shoot a stream of shots at the GSV.

Well, four streams with maxed Hacking skill. Some shots should make it through, and it takes a while, but at least you're not getting shot at until it activates. Which it only did for me when I got a bit closer. Most stationary enemies could be shot this way, by sneaking up to a corner and fire at a part of the enemy while its centre wasn't in line of sight from my centre.

Mouse free-aims your shots, and keyboard WASD or arrow keys move the avatar cyberspaceship or whatever it is.

The only enemy in the room is the GSV.That and lots of force fields you can end up against if you don't move carefully.I tried getting to a blindspot where the GSV can't aim me but once i enter its field of view, it can reach me everywhere in the room.Guess I'll try again looking for a safespot

I did it. I managed to find a spot out of its fire range. It went down quickly as I had not to do all that circling around it

Nice! I went back to see for myself, and I had completely forgotten where it was. Had to look it up online. And indeed, it was the other GSV that had the black holes. And I kept shooting for a while, and then stopped to get a closer look, and then it exploded. Ah yes, that's how it was. It only reacted to taking all that damage when I got close enough for it to notice me. Talk about a cheap tactic, eh?

Yes, when it notice you it starts to fire at you at high speed and can reach you almost everywhere in the room but if you start firing before you hit its field of view in a position where your shots can reach it it goes down very quickly. It's just a standard, disappointing cyberspace section of the game, and well cyberspace is the worst aspect of Dex.

i just strafed around it. I didnt even put a single point into hacking.
dhraiden Jan 29, 2018 @ 3:40pm
Ditto. Just strafe around it. Try not to pass out from boredom. Occasionally fire off a "wedge" special shot. Rinse and repeat.
Rickson Feb 20, 2018 @ 6:29pm
Yep. It is literally "circle-strafe" the boss. It really is a shame, there's so much cool atmosophere and theme but all of the mechanics are just off enough to be unfullfilling.
