Beating Leo in Big City without Cheat Tackle

1. Spend all cash on Energy Mushrooms. (Revives)
2. Capture sacrifice 1: Recommend Klaydirt on the starter route. (Looks like a haniwa. Chance to mud when hit: Lower hit chance & speed)
3. Capture sacrifice 2: Messa north of starter route. (Looks like a dark moogle. Chance to curse when hit: Block healing and damage over time)
4. Save before Leo fight.
5. In battle, when Lioroar comes out, send out Messa. Opponent will one-hit KO, but may get cursed.
6. Send out other sacrifice and use energy mushroom on fainted Messa
7. Continue reviving sacrifices and alternating.
8. If Lioroar does not get cursed within first few exchanges, reload save. Curse is critical as it blocks the recovery from Lioroar's lifesteal attack.

I used a more reliable strategy.

1. Catch the water snail Yarimon (Slorb?--I don't recall it's name).
2. Raise the snail to level 12.
3. Buy (At least four each-maybe five or six to be safe) Attack up, Defense up, Evasion up, and Agility up drinks from the vending machines just before Big City.
4. Get at least 5 recovery beans.
5. Send in water snail first.
6. The first enemy is kind of weak so use the time to boost defense, then evasion, then agility, and finally attack to max. If your defense gets lowered use additional defense up to boost it back to max.
7. Heal as needed.
8. One shot KO first two Yarimon.
9. Heal as needed as you fight the level 37. Use the water attack.

If you missed this achievement on your first playthrough, it is easy to just start a new file and fight Leo again to unlock the achievement.

As a side note, playing the game without using cheat tackle is more fun in my opinion.

I could by 16 things only, where'd you get this extra money from. also slorb still got 1 hit even after using all 5 of my defence up

The mushrooms that give you money when you collect them respawn, though it sometimes takes a few screen transitions for it to happen. From what I can tell they all respawn infinitely and can be any of the three colors (red, yellow or blue). One such mushroom is on the left side of the Road of Beginnings, after leaving the starting town, so you can keep getting that one if you want more money.

I did find some mushrooms along the way. They give money and respawn. I also got many free items. The star discs to catch the Yarimon are free from the man at the ext of the hometown. I also found some items in the drawers in the back room of my house. I also received free health beans from someone (I forgot who gives them to you).

You may not be able to afford everything. I recommend prioritizing the following.

1. Defense (one defense up increases defense +2 defense levels [max +8])
2. Evasion (one evasion up increases evasion +2 evasion levels [max +8])
3. Attack
4. Healing
5. Agility (get at least one).

Try using 1 defense up first on his first Yarimon. Then adding 4 evasion up. Then three more defense up. Then use 4 attack up and 1 or 2 agility. you want to at least be faster than the carrot Yarimon.

If your defense gets lowered by Leo's first Yarimon, make sure you are back to +8 defense before fighting his last Yarimon and make sure all your Yarimon are level 12.

Some additional things I found to help.

1. the lvl 28 lady can be cheesed with Candle and Goley for an additional level by burning her then infinitely def uping Goley as he can't be defensed down. she'll die quite quick over time.

2. the dev room by the tree has a pretty high spawn rate for money mushrooms right near the 2nd ladder. just go up and down the ladder for basically infinite money for buying your buffs.

the bottom one is especially useful as the curse strat will work indefinitely as you can buy infinite revives!

This is RNG but it works!

1.Catch Candlinger and Messa(for Blaze and Curse)
2.Buy as much revives(Energy Mushrooms) as possible.
3.Go to Big City and make a save before you interact with Leo
4.Use Candlinger to one-shot the grass type yarimon
5.Use Messa for Rootly by greatly decreasing its accurate(Dark realm and hitting with attack)
6.Lionroar is the RNG part, you need to scarifice both yarimon back and forth using revives.
7.Victory!!! no segs yet sadge

This worked for me. Except I used Chikepu to fight Leo's first two Yarimon (as long as you don't use Cheat Tackle it's fine to use Chikepu). Lioroar got status'd with the DoTs on the first hits on Candoll and Messa each and then I just kept reviving them until Lioroar died. I bought like 27 revives but didn't even use half of them. It was really easy.
