Do Metal Barrels do anything?

Not noticing a benefit and I had to dismantle them to allow me to complete a technology.

Do the deck items "Metal Barrel" do anything for your ship?

Wondering myself what the metal barrel is used for. Also got several "Old Barrels" just rusting in my inventory.

It is supposed to add buoyancy but I haven't noticed a diff and I wanted the materials.

you can't dismantle those old barrels directly but you can make them into Metal barrels and dismantle those

When your ship gets bigger you'll found it is possible to place it as shield from enemies damage. But it is costly to repair, so don't. Use wooden fences.

How can you make them into "New" metal barrels, i dont see the recipe....

(found it, its in the crew build menu, not in the base)

But is it worth it? i've got tons of those barrels and would like to put them to good use. BTW are there places where they can be sold for corks, i guess no?

yeah, of course, barrels are used to build other ship structures and later repair them.

No, i mean building barrels (items) out of barrels (resource) and the dismantling that, as the person i'm quoting suggested
This sounds like getting less resources back, unless i'm not understanding something...

yes making barrels to dismantle is a waste of time you get back 3 old barrels and 3 copper

which crafts require old barrels besides the blue barrel ?
and metal shield requires 100 irons to make 1 (not viable practice since they loot drop easy )
