You have to collect resources through trash, dredging, or wrecks.
If you press "F", you can configure when and up to which percentage you want your crew to repair your ship.
Early game, try to always have around 200 of each resources in hold.
Otherwise, some merchant can buy some of the resources you have in overabundance, that's some quick cash, but don't forget you'll need those resources to improve your base and your ship later on.
I've droped them all off at my base as I didnt want to risk loosing anything when I die.
Come to think about the base, how do I repair the boat inside the base? I got all stuff there, but I dont see a way to repair my boat.
Either you let your crew do it, or you have to pay.
At your base, when you dock, the game will ask you if you want to pay for repairs. It won't consume resources, but it will cost you corks (standard money you get from missions and trading).
You can also ask for repairs at workshops and shipwrights.
For your crew, they'll work on the ship only when you are afloat, they'll do it automatically, with different settings if you are cruising, in battle or in emergency situation (spacebar)
You can also manually ask them to repair some components or all the ship entirely.
I recommend to let them repair the ship and components the way it is until you have sufficient resources.
Trying to keep the ship and components in pristine condition is extremely costly.
with a wood ship having just enough metal n else for the components.
i already once had raiders spawning below my ship xD
