How the f do I fund my repairs?
I keep having my boat trashed, but having it repaired costs like XXXX while I only have XX in cash o_O
No way to earn funds, no way to pay for repairs, so Im drifting around in a leaking bathtub right now :D
What am I missing, how do I raise more funds than it costs to repair my boat?

You're not supposed to pay for repairs, it's more of a last solution if you run out of resources.

You have to collect resources through trash, dredging, or wrecks.

If you press "F", you can configure when and up to which percentage you want your crew to repair your ship.

Early game, try to always have around 200 of each resources in hold.

Otherwise, some merchant can buy some of the resources you have in overabundance, that's some quick cash, but don't forget you'll need those resources to improve your base and your ship later on.

aight, need to keep spareparts on me.
I've droped them all off at my base as I didnt want to risk loosing anything when I die.
Come to think about the base, how do I repair the boat inside the base? I got all stuff there, but I dont see a way to repair my boat.

You have two choices to repair your boat.
Either you let your crew do it, or you have to pay.

At your base, when you dock, the game will ask you if you want to pay for repairs. It won't consume resources, but it will cost you corks (standard money you get from missions and trading).
You can also ask for repairs at workshops and shipwrights.

For your crew, they'll work on the ship only when you are afloat, they'll do it automatically, with different settings if you are cruising, in battle or in emergency situation (spacebar)

You can also manually ask them to repair some components or all the ship entirely.

I recommend to let them repair the ship and components the way it is until you have sufficient resources.

Trying to keep the ship and components in pristine condition is extremely costly.
I was in the same spot as you then I realise i had made my boat in all the same type of mat (metal) causing me to lose all my plastic and metal. So I made my boat out of wood and mix up the shields making sure i had more wood and metal shielding cause all I had was wheels for my shields and they broke quick causing my crew to repair them way to often and taking my plastic. Also bigger boat will have a bigger up keep

aah, noted. Was not thinking about that different shieldings could be using different materials :)

u can HOLD shift when transfering to leave like 300-500 of the 3 materials for repair and dump everything else. i dump all then shift click the mats back into my hold with my sonar, food and water

ya i too discovered the odd repair rate and had to go from plastic back to wood. i have 2x as much wood as the other 2. clearly the game gives us TONS of wood. kinda annoying really but i would recommend making ur boat out of wood and think about making the wood armor. i do use the metal armor and so far does not seem to be too bad... but when i get to make t2 armor i might go wood just so its easy to repair the boat

metal is even worse, stay with wood, the constant raiders anywhere shreddering your ship all the time, having those constant repairs, makes everything appart of wood super inefficient as far as im though.

with a wood ship having just enough metal n else for the components.

i already once had raiders spawning below my ship xD
