The answer is simple: to make them harder and more expensive to repair, because they're so useful :)
Lore-wise: maybe they're used to transport small arms contraband. :ooh:

That would make them stand-out visually and that jeopardizes the contraband operation: you claim that those are just standard tanks with standard contents and have not been tampered with :hee:

But seriously, why? Although they can be used to provide cover for some sensitive equipment it makes no sense when it comes to repairs.

Did they change the repair requirements? I have like 6 on my ship at all times. Can’t have them eating up my precious weapon parts!

They always cost gun parts to repair at a certain threshold, probably 50% ?
Get the drum turret style that can house machineguns but put wind gens in them.
You can also craft basically boxes in your base for that but they dont have much hp

Same reason? xD

Exactly to reduce their attractiveness — it's game design balance, even if logically and lorewise it's hard to justify.
Or to make you keep repairs at 25-50% if they only require those parts for better repairs.

From the game balance viewpoint there is a sense though.

but see that's just it , if they were trying to force us to keep them repaired to 25-50% then why are the gun parts the first 2 tiers and scrap metal from 50-100%?...

shouldn't it be the other way around from you're assertion?
seriously , look at one and tell me how the repair cost makes any sense this way.

i'm just sayin is all..

The ones I have on my dredging scorpena are painted? Admittedly they're still mostly rust

Ah, sorry, that's unusual :) Hmmm, so it forces you to try to keep them repaired, but since that's likely not always possible — means you can't avoid paying for heavy damages... Makes them more expensive and cumbersome to use than even with vice versa repairs.
