What killed this character?

Is that an on-death effect or something else? You can see it didn't activate immediatelly but then those purple things appeared and deleted him. What killed him?

I see that melee enemy had "Volatile Crystals", I never seen this mod, is that what happened?

it's the "volatile crystals" text on the mob..

Yep. Some boss-types have a delayed AOE that looks like purple fungus that starts growing on the ground. I have been in situations where even after the boss died, I was killed by the delayed explosion of the purple blossoms. Now, when I see them (the purple stuff), I roll out of them as fast as possible. The good thing is that they have a BIG tell -- as soon as you see them, it takes several seconds for them to reach maturity, giving you a ton of time to roll out of the blast effect.

But it's crazy that it deleted him like that, probably not elemental damage.

Might not be the type of damage at all -- maybe it is just bad luck in that the attacks simultaneously critted as well as got through evasion and armor all at the same time. A perfect storm of coincidence maybe?
