Hello I want this to help out new players who are interested in trading but do know what they are doing. I actually want to talk about common trade scams bc people are terrible. I can't talk about every single one so if other POE 1 vets want to talk thier favorite scams they come across feel free to contribute. I want to talk about the oldest and most prevalent scam in POE

The Bait and Switch

Here's how it works. You're on trade and you see a unique amulet you need , the stats are great, and the price is acceptable. You whisper, they invite you to thier hideout. You open the trade window. You put down the correct currency they want, they put down the amulet you want. You press accept and all of a sudden the seller backs out the trade. No worries he chats you and says thier cat jumped on the the keyboard and they are ready to trade. You open the window, you put down the currency, they put down the amulet...you accept the the trade. You're happy, they are happy and you return to your hideout. You look at the amulet and you notice the stats are lower than they are suppose to be. You message the seller, the seller has blocked you. Congratulations you just been scammed and there nothing you can do about it.

How to avoid this scam.

Its pretty self explanatory. Don't press accept until you are 100% sure youre getting what you're paying for. This also goes the other way. People try to short change you using the same method. Instead of 150 exalts they try to to give you 140 tje 2nd time and hope you dont notice. As soon as a trade is canceled for any reason your alarm bells need to be blaring. Not saying everyone who does this is trying to scam you...but this is how people scam. Scammers take advantage of your excitement and create frustration to get you to make mistakes. Take your time and read the items, count all the currency ...don't get jammed.

A big thing to note. Any decent trader won't mind if you take a second to check the item and make sure it's the right one. It's not being rude. Even if they got a line of people, if you're spending currency, always take a few seconds and just double check it rather than just mousing over to immediately click accept. Also if they put the wrong item, just link it in chat. Sometimes it's an honest mistake because of quad tabs or having too many trades going at the same time.

The one thing I want to stress going forward is when your dealing with trade and the game for hours on end...you sometimes just lose focus for an instant.

Its very to say "You dumb, you fell for it, haha."

Its just not that simple.

Just came across this video about how scammers use currency that look alike to scam people. Common POE scam. Just be careful, double check everything, take your time. 9 times out of 10 these scams fail...they just need 1 to succeed. There are thousands of players....some are new. The odds are in the scammers favor.

Full blown communism. Every currency you loot is removed and put in one huge pool. You are rationed 10 EX orbs a day. Streamers and VIPs get 25.

even with proof its denounciation. the forum is NOT the right place to do this hence such posts are to be removed. its a TOS breach on the posters end for interaction the forums so the thread/post being deleted is still a mild response.

I had to act the same way when i did forum moderation for other games in the past. havent interacted with poe1 though so i cant speak about the extent of that specific type of occurance

Yes, just stop complaining. Take it as it is, and never say anything.
That's how things change, right? Not like it's an early access and that they're listening to feedback, especially with how many things they changed from PoE 1 that for years have been something that Dev's have been 100% against.


As for myself; i will never stop telling GGG that parts of their vision are stupid, no matter how many times they try to explain how it's "necessary friction".

I mean, don't trade with people. Just play SSF like god intended.

Not sure if it's a a new or old scam but i saw people offering the ascendancy trials.
They tell you they will kill the boss for you and you need to stay AFK and get the ascendancy points after he killed the boss.

They want you to pay BEFORE. Every time anyone want you to pay before in a game is 99.99% a SCAM. they will probably leave group after you paid him.

Geez, no wonder real world scams work if people can be this obtuse.
