Eldritch Battery Broken?
Picked up Eldritch Battery expecting to convert my 4200 energy shield to mana.

Current mana: 1298
Mana after Eldrtich Battery: 2290

Did I misread or misunderstand how Eldritch Battery works? I should have: 5498 Mana?

I'm going to guess that it has to do with percentage increases to Energy Shield not being counted before the conversion.

So if your "increased energy shield" percentage is around +325% according to the numbers here, that multiplier is not counting at all.

When you hover over the Convert keyword, it tells you that the BASE value gets converted, and no bonuses to the value gets applied.
I.E.: Your bonuses to Energy Shield don't apply, only Bonuses to Mana apply to the value after conversion.

It only covert flat ES on gear...it ignore ES percentage increases becuase the conversion happens BEFORE ES percentage increases.

Ex. 100 ES on a chest. Take Eldrich Battery. Its now 100 mana. Since you have 100 mana and not 100 ES the increase ES nodes on the tree don't apply anymore. You now need to get increased maximum mana.

9 out of 10 times Eldrich Battery is bait becuase its alot harder to scale mana than ES. Unless you have an amulet like Everlasting Gaze which gives up to 30% of Maximum Mana as extra energy....this conversion happens AFTER EB Conversion which allows you to have energy shield and scale it on the tree.

Thanks for the replies, I guess I just don't understand then the point of Eldritch Battery. I mean I can do mana management just fine overall so having a decent energy shield vs. loosing it all just to get a less than 1k bump to mana... (shrugs).

battery is to just stack extra mana for MOM to become invincible with 6k mana and insane regen like on arcane surge bonuses in the asc tree on sorc. its 1 point for like a 1.5k boost to mana

right up until they announce they are nerfing that too in a few days

LOL

Here's the point. It's very niche. Let's say you take EB and now you have 3k mana and 0 ES. You can take that and also take Mind Over Matter which makes all damage go through Mana before life.

You can now scale Mana regen and Maximum mana instead of ES. I dont think it's worth it but people do it bc stuff like archmage makes you deal more damage the more mana you have.

You can take it even further.

There's a amulet called Everlast Gaze which has a modifier that says. "Gain up to 30% of Maximum Mana as Extra Shield." This completely ignores Eldrich Battery bc it happens after the EB mana conversion.

So you have 3k mana and now you have alittle under 1k Flat ES with the amulet equipped. Better news is you can now scale that 1k ES with %percentage ES increases on gear and the tree. So that 1k ES can get increased by the 500% or more increased ES that you allocated.

Best of both worlds. It's all about being wording.

It does get increased by mana bonuses. It does not get increased by ES bonuses. It says this if you hold alt over the term EB

Ahhh, ok that makes a lot more sense. I have a feeling there will be some changes though if that makes the build to OP. Thanks for the reply.
