So far the story is...normal? We only have the first half right now, so we don't really know where it's going to go just yet
What? No it's a sequel. All of PoE1 happened, then there was a lull for a few years, then the PoE2 story starts to happen.
You'll even visit the Town you helped build up in PoE1 Settlers League, now fully built and intact.
In general, it's of course "Go here, kill that", since it's an Hack'n'Slay ARPG. However there is cool lore sprinkled around the world, if you take the time to listen to the NPC dialogues and read the various notes and stuff you'll find.
