There are also some pretty bs combinations that you can get in trials that should probably get weeded out, but they have been repeatedly discussed all over so not going to beat that horse.
But there should be SOME kind of gate on ascendancy. Otherwise it makes no sense lore wise.
It'd be fine if it was an engame extra challenge for a very high chance of rare drops or something, but not for progression.
I don't mind fighting bosses over and over to learn their mechanics, but having to fight against RNG in Ultimatum and never getting a single drop if the FKN birb kills you after you spend over an hour doing the challenge is ass. In Lab I didn't get the end chests, but everything I found up to that I got to keep if I died. And it's so amazingly ass that the trials are limited after the first one. Here, kill a boss, maybe get a token, try ultimatum once, get stuck with three unwinnable modifiers on round 7. You just wasted an hour and got nothing.
The honour mechanic is completely fair and balanced if you're ranged. If you're melee, you just can't do it. Maybe the very first one if you level past it, but thanks to this game shafting life builds over ES stacking, you're toast. The ones where you need to climb 3-4 floors? No. And also no, hitting the ground three screens away and killing everything with an earthquake is NOT melee. It's just you using physical skills from range.
