That said, it is still quite good. But so are plenty of other things. A couple of examples. For maces, Earthquake with Fast Forward and Fist of War wrecks most trash mobs. For bows,, you have two options. Poisonburst Arrow with Scattershot and Bursting Plague is very strong, and so is the Lightning Arrow + the Lightning Rod one. And so on.
Nah....Im currently running it and it can pretty much do anything. Once you get archmage and Arcanensurge accendencies it's easy street. You just need to get defenses at that point which is the expensive part.
Really, though, as I said before, there are a bunch of skill combos that trivialize trash mobs. And as far as sorcs go, the real star is Fire Wall, combined with just about any projectile. I mean, even your typical Spark sorc in the low levels quickly learns Spark is not good against bosses, and uses a Gelid Staff instead. Heck, on the new sorc I just started, I'm using Ember Fusillade (Scattershot, woot) with Fire Wall, and that's easily cutting through stuff as well... and so far performs better than Spark against bosses.
Mind you, that doesn't undermine the ease of the Fire Wall, Spark, and Gelid Staff trio. It's brain dead trash mob clearing with Spark, and the staff to destroy bosses from up close.
that's a bow weapon skill setup. anybody can use Spark and Wall of Fire with minor investment in INT, which most builds need anyway in the early game for some mana.
Sparks through fire walls are good, but it's far from the only early game faceroll skill.
Heck, from my current sorc run, any further early sorcs I make will start out with Ember Fusillade using the Scattershot gem, rather than Spark. It slaughters packs, it mops the floor with bosses, and then you get a horde of skulls once you get spirit.
