Equip and use two crossbows?
Hi everyone, I'm trying to use 2 crossbows for different skills, one is elemental, the other is physical, but everytime I try to change weapon with x as soon as I try to shoot the game goes back to the crossbows equipped in slot 2. I've tried checking boxes in the skill menu, I've tried putting the base attack twice in the skill bar but nothing works. What am I missing? Is it even possible?

I had this exact same problem when trying to use 2 different crossbows and not sure what to do. Maybe someone will come along and figure this out or just flat out think the whole thing is bugged with crossbows. I too had same theory to use one crossbow for the physical damage and use another for all the elemental stuff, but at this point, I just stick to whatever.

You may have noticed that the normal attack skill for the crossbow has no option to pick which crossbow it will use. I wonder if this is reason it's buggy.

yeah most probably, I've tried to put both base skills on the skillbar but it doens't change anything, it always goes back to the one in the second slot

Click G - Click arrow to show details of the skills - at the bottom of the details of the skill you can see "I" and "II". It's your weapon set - disable "II" to make skill use only "I" set. :lunar2019piginablanket:
If you have two crossbows. You have accordingly two normal attack skills.

1. Open up the skills window with "G"
2. Find the small arrow next to the skill Damage and press it.
3. Another window opens with detailed information. On the Bottom of this new window you will see an option that reads "Used with weapon set:" (I II).
4. Select the crossbow you want to use the skill with. Deselect the one you don't want.

Now because of the mechanics of the Mercenary this is a bit tricky:
Bind the first "Crossbow shot" to the left mouse key and the second "Crossbow shot" to the right mouse key (or wherever you want).

Now each crossbow will only load the bolts assigned to them. You can have fragmentation on one and armor piercing on the other and alternate on the fly by pressing left mouse/right mouse without changing skills. Each crossbow will load its rounds automatically when it is empty and each crossbow will only switch between its assigned skills.

Hope this helps.

oh wow I tried this yesterday and it didn't work (or maybe I just set it up wrong)
kind of sucks you have to use two slots for the basic attack but it works

There's a lot of extra slots, if you click ctrl (I think it was by default at least)
Just put the one you don't need there

It's normal to use two slut for the basic attack, like every other weapons in the game, differents weapons means differents attacks. Two crossbows - Two buttons, for me it's a really good system and it bring a lot of flexibilty in our build to adapt to differnt situation espacially with the bosses.
