Corrupting an item?
I used those vaal orbs in pieces of equipment, and it says it would changes it somehow. However, all itens I've used it so far have changed absolutely nothing, not a single point of attribute or effect was modified after corruption. What is the point of this vaal orb then?

it can add sockets, giving you 3 when only 2 is normally available. it can reduce the sockets. it can improve quality by a couple points or shoot it to 20% or it can go above 20%. it can keep all your attributes but increase or decrease them. it can completely change everything about it. it can also potentially reduce the quality back to white. the best thing it can do is add 2 implicits (that's the writing that appears above the prefixes and suffixes, that you can't get any other way.

what items are you doing it on? like what rarity. keep in mind also that that quality % it is changes the liklihood of you getting a favorable outcome.

Mostly rings and weapons. I used a total of five already. None of them changed anything at all, though. Literally zero chances. None of the effects got better or worse. They were all rare (yellow) equipment. Could it be a bug then? They all continued to be yellow, and none of them got a single extra slot, let alone lose one.

The best part about vaal orbs is when it destroys your item.

You're not bugged. Vaal orbs just do nothing sometimes. There's no guarantee they'll do anything besides corrupt whatever you use them on. They are the "High Risk, High Reward" orb. They can do powerful things no other orb can (like adding an additional socket) but they can also just as easily ruin whatever you use them on.

Which is why the best practice is to only use them as the VERY last thing you do to an item because you won't be able to modify the item anymore.

I used one on an item the other day and it rerolled all the suffix mods, removing the only good affix the item had.

So if you can't easily replace something you should think long and hard if you really want to risk it for a chance at one additional affix that could be anything.

The safest thing to do with them right now is to use them on your skill gems since gems are common and corrupted gems can still be leveled up. If you get lucky, your gem'll get another socket and Vaal's are WAY cheaper than Greater Jeweler's orbs.
