Lightning sorc poor damage

Anyone know why I do so poor damage? I have put every skill point in to spell dmg and have a staff with extra bonus to spell dmg and maxed out the lightning spell. Doing about 11 dmg per hit at times. Im probably going to quit this game because its not very fun when you feel extremely weak all the time but wanted to ask in case im missing something.

Spark by itself has very low base damage. Empower it by dropping a flame wall between you and the enemy, and then shoot the sparks through the flames.

Edit: You started off doing that. Not sure why you stopped after initially doing it. You have to keep it up.

Thx for the answer. I tried that and it does indeed do more damage. But Its difficult if not impossible to use it in this fight since the boss is moving around all the time. Guess sorc isnt it.

In order to double the damage of spark you need to put down first the bubble thing, the skill you have on your E key, then lay the fire wall and then spam the spark.

I tried to level up a lightning sorc as well, I actually managed to beat those 2 bosses quite easy... but unfortunately the Executioner is a nightmare, can't even bring him to half hp as he is constantly jumping and his blows have such a huge hit box while the sorc gets stuck in place while casting the skills it always get hit, has no time to roll away. I've seen end-game lightning sorcs doing quite awesome, I have no idea how they managed to get past these initial bosses...

Unfortunately you're kinda pigeonholed into being an ice sorc until you're able to use the third tier skill gems, Ice orb/Ice bomb/Ice nova are just too strong, you can hybridize in some fire with firewall and embers, but lightning isn't really bringing anything until the tier 3 skills

I don't think he's overleveled. He might have slightly better gear and a different talent tree spec, but it's hard to say since he never showed them.

There are some general things to follow for sorc, at least for low levels.
- Frost is about big bursts, and gains more DPS by freezing enemies, then shattering ice around them.
- Fire is about applying dots (this game calls it affliction, in this case burning) to weaken their defenses to increase DPS.
- Lightning does more DPS the faster it travels. So in your case, consider respecing towards cast speed.

Most effective sorc builds in this game so far require a hybrid of elements... either frost/fire, fire/lightning, or lightning/frost. So consider that when you're building your sorc as well. You don't necessarily need to invest points into both, you just need the secondary element to empower your primary element. Hope that helps.

Wow I did Ice instead and I kind of nuked the boss first try. My god what a difference

Yeah, frost is great for sorcs. Once you get Cold Snap, you'll be able to explode your slow moving Frostbolts and frozen enemies. Just make sure you equip it with the support gem that reduces the cooldown to practically zero, and you'll be snapping your way to victory.

Are you also new to PoE or have you played 1?
I actually ran into the same stuff, I bruteforced basically everything with low damage, until I took the time to read all the skills and piece together how they work.

Also some "skills" are just not as good for bosses.

Frost is much stronger.

Playing lightning Sorc and just got to act 2 but i cant even kill that 1st boss cos the damage output is so garbage. All my gear is good but this class aint got any damage at all but then again the game mechanics are ♥♥♥♥ aswell lol lets give a boss a angry pack of dogs that just push you around and stop you rolling and casting. Yay! fun. lol

As already mentioned, lightning on it's own is garbage, it's a lot easier fire/cold. Firewall frost bolt.

Im not using just pure lightning i have other spells but again no damage output at all. Having to stand still to cast while a boss runs around crazy casting is just no fun especially for the class that cant move and cast so ofc you get that 1 shot ya dead ♥♥♥♥ and repeat. And lets give them loads of spear boys at the back that will punish aswell during this ♥♥♥♥ fight. Whoever thought of that needs a punch in the face for that ♥♥♥♥ boss design.

you gear must be really bad doing this low dmg not front but i did kill this guy whit spark verry fast in ssf

Pretty much all elemental spells have garbage damage. It's like GGG figured everyone was going to use Archmage, so why bother giving the spell gems themselves actual damage?

Probably the worst spell I've seen so far is Eye of Winter though. At level 52 when you get it, it does like 30-50 damage per shard, so on average 400 damage per cast. With damage that low, you'd think it would be super cheap to cast. Nope, 100+ mana per cast.
