focus on maximum physical damage from the crossbow or a combination of phys+elemental damage
get decent armor/evasion and life on gear with cold resistance as the last boss deals mainly cold damage
Hey, if you want some help with bosses and would like some decent starting rare gear to equip let's add each other in-game.
It gets much easier when you obtain gear and levels.
throwing gas grenade will trigger a gas cloud and explosive grenade will explode the cloud dealing good amount of damage, explosive grenade on its own deals good damage when slotted with scattershot support
also flash grenade is very good at stunning enemies with "overpower" support
Game is just not made for you, and that's fine.
life+resistance on most items is a good idea.
armor is strong early game even if you dont have much of it
boots with 10 movement speed will make your life infinitely better, even if the boots dont have much of anything else.
Count Geonor is indeed quite difficult for an early game boss. You could stack cold resistance gear to reduce a decent chunk of his damage, but it would be a bandaid to a greater endemic problem...
The truth is that the game has lots of bosses with must-dodge one-shot-kill mechanics. Act 2 end boss is notorious for having too much health, but there are certainly others that people seem to get stuck on. Even professional gamers seem to be struggling with the extreme endgame.
We'll see what changes GGG roll out. Hopefully you will be able to play after a few tweaks.
Editing to agree with asapa that partying up and trading for better gear are absolutely one way to circumnavigate the early difficulty.
Just go Ranger, Sorc or Merc, get a lot of HP + resists and go to town.
I'm well aware of how the mechanics work. I even used a talent calc and an Excel spreadsheet to try and optimize an early build. So far in 28 hours, I got one Exalted Orb, one Alchemy Orb, and 2 Regal Orbs. I gambled most of my money trying to get gear. I've had maybe 10 yellows drop the whole game, and most vendor resets have 2 or so yellows that aren't useful for my build. How am I supposed to gear up properly with these drop rates, or craft anything? I buy socket items when I see them to break down also. I'm doing everything I know how to do.
