The 10% xp loss doesn't start until roughly level 70 as far as I'm aware (based on Kripps video)
At that point in the game losing 10% is a big deal and frankly is a waste of players time. If there's one thing people hate its having their time wasted. Everything can be fine one minute and then you get clipped by a 1 shot from off screen that you never saw coming because you can't zoom out far enough to see properly. Sometimes ♥♥♥♥ just happens and forced xp loss isn't difficulty. It is entirely artificial. The same can be said about the game taking away 60% of your resistances for no real reason. Other than "Well, Diablo did it we can as well"
^ It's a love-hate relationship. Always remember complaints don't instantly mean game trash. You can easily complain about something you enjoy playing because you're able to recognise the problems it has and hope it will be changed.
But i hate the exp penalty in both. And people saying " we need a hard game for once! "
It's a game where you can get one-shot easily. That's not 'hard'. At all.
In this game, however, it's so much worse. I barely die, but the waystone are so ridiculously rare for some reason, that i went from tier 13 to tier 10 today.
I gained negative progression... even when all my map are yellow and i have 16 atlas point purely focusing on dropping more of that ♥♥♥♥.
Yes, I liked most of the game and recommended it, I just can't play with this system present. Its not my idea or my choice, It just threatens my health, and i want to play it to spend time with my friends.
At least bring it to a logical level where you don't get thrown 5 hours back everytime you die.
You got to be kidding? I thought we left that poor design crap behind years ago with PoE1. Hmmm. I will think twice now about playing.
You won't lose exp as long as you're doing the campaign.
Not sure if it's the same nonsense as PoE1 where level ~83 was the halfway point (experience wise) to 100. But in that game when you were very high level, like 90+, a single death wiped out several days' worth of play. If they are still disrespecting people's time that blatantly in this game, I won't be playing it long-term.
I am currently not sure, I'm lvl 65 right now, trying to get through the rest of ACT 3 cruel mode. Then I'm off to maps. Back in PoE 1 I had a lvl 97 ranger and death then was a complete waste of time. Easily going back hours upon hours of progress. It isn't difficulty it's punishing.
