BUG. Character lock at name.
For some reason i find myself unable to play the game. i type in my name i want and nothing happens. say that name already exist. idk how since this is my first character. i hope they're not counting other player names. that just old outdated mechanics, honestly that would ruin the immersion of the game. but if thats the case then let me add numbers. why not. better the random keys like lAUFGldksjfg for a name. Edited this and removed lazy coding. hope this is better.

Names must be 100% unique. If the name you want isn't available, try until you find one that is.

If you tried using GeoffEpstein as a name, my bad.

isnt that just lazy in coding.

i havent but if i had to make up a name it be diddysomething. or mass report the person that got my name until they get banned and i get it. then it could be unique to me. but that just pettiness. and rude to do to someone that got lucky over lazy coding.

No, it's not "lazy in coding", it's based on the same name database system they used in PoE1, and is likely that way to ensure compatibility between the name databases for the games. While it's not ideal, it's just going to be something we'll have to deal with.

PoE was initial released back in 2013. So your saying that they just copy over code from the 1st one to make the second one and used the name database system. that lazy coding. like you said not ideal. its not a hard fix its just more coding. thats all. make everyone have the names they want and use the account they made names. those are 100% unique.. even discord lets you have your own name. just adding #0000 behind it and hide the #0000. and why do i have to just deal with. if enough ppl speak up about change its more likely going to change. ppl just sit around and did nothing about old out dated mechanics youll see them in every sequel game.

Ignore Kritty. Yes, it's pathetically lazy. There are several solutions they could have come up with for this, none of which are particularly difficult; it would just take a little time. They have to make sure that people can transfer their MTX from PoE1. Solvable problems for anyone with a brain and anyone who knows *anything* about how databases actually operate.

TLDR: Easy solutions, insanely lazy devs.

i wouldnt say lazy devs. PoE is popular for a reason. just speaking up about the naming system. and that sounds amazing for what they are doing for transfer on MTX. Game still in Early Access so thing can still change.

yeah it is really lazy and outdated
magnumaniac Dec 15, 2024 @ 9:46am
It is poor. You already need to use a unique identifier to log in (i.e. e-mail address). All they need to do is append that to your chosen name and hide the appendix in the interface.

I guess their database schema for when they first built PoE didn't allow for such a huge number of people playing - but they should have modified that by now.

I'll make you a name right now. DoughNut Dirigible. Jenkins was too common.

Yeah, it is lazy coding. For steam users the solution is simple, use the steam ID as the account name and then any name after that is usable by anyone, but what do I know, im just an IDAM SME IRL .

P.S you log in. regardless if you are using steam or not. even on epic and console. so the Account would be with PoE.

Yes, telling everyone my PII is a great idea, but i'll pass. I have been in the biz for 30 years even before IDAM existed, back in the days when the geniuses @ MS came out with the phrase "NEW NT5 Built on NT technology",

If you were around back then, that is hilarious. NT stands for 'New Technology' IE that statement from MS is this: New New Technology, build on New Technology Technology.

^^ Thats a freebee kid. Njoy it.
