Inspiring Ally skill bugged???
So I'm messing around with a companion ranger build. Working so far but when doing some investigation noticed my dmg didn't seem to jump like I expected when gaining "Inspiring Ally" skill. Says all increases to companion dmg also applys to you. All told through skill points I have 72% increase in companion dmg, That gets me 1924, however when refunding the skill I drop to 1559 dmg. Doing quick math it seems the bonus is inverse and only giving me 25% increased dmg not the 72% or are these percentages not cumulative?

"increased" is additive, "more" is multiplicative.

Inspiring ally works fine, got it on mount and it works as it should.

Ok then I'm stupid not quite understanding, but 72% of 1559 is 1122 so should be at 2681, not 1924...guess is where I'm confused. Its only applying a 28% dmg bonus which again is the inverse. Or am I missing something in how these calculations work?

If you have +200% increased damage on your build and
your companion has + 100% increased damage
then your total increased damage is 300%
That would mean going from x3 to x4, or 33% relative increase.

tl:dr,
"increase" and "decrease" are additive
"more" and "less" are separate multipliers

All "increased damage" bonuses are within one bucket. So its bonus is additive.

Lets say you attack with 100 melee damage. If you get +100% increased attack damage and then +50% increased melee attack damage from other source, you deal 250 damage. 100% and 50% increases are in same bucket and thus additive, so damage is 100+(100%+50%), not (100+100%)+50% (which would be 300).

You say additive but again 72% of base dmg is 1122 so adding it should get me to 2681 should it not? Instead its only applying 28% of my base dmg guess is whats confusing me.

1122 / 1.72 = 652
2681 / 652 = 4.11 (+311%) so if you have 72% without it, then the bonus you think it gives is 239%? The 4 nodes leading up to Inspiring Ally is 80%, assuming companion is within your presence range. Where is the other +159% you're expecting to have?

If you really want to have it laid out out for you exactly, post a link to your character so we can look at your gear/passive tree and point out exactly what your personal total increase is and what your combined total is.

How do you know your base damage?
