XP loss on death
Has GGG taken an official stance on losing xp loss on death? I wish it didn't exist.

You don't lose XP on Pinnacle bosses but no other change to XP loss

That's how it's been in POE 1 unless you're looking for a different answer.

yeah im looking for a different answer
Basically nobody likes the XP penalty, and the only people who defend it are bad-faith git gudders who don't actually have any valid arguments, but GGG refuses to budge on this incredibly bad game design decision.

There should be a punishment for death in POE 2 . IMHO Maybe end game only like now.

There should be no punishment for death. A game shouldn't "punish" you. A game should be fun at all times. That's what games are FOR.

Even at 0 exp loss, its still a loss of time and breaks your flow. I don't think it should be 0, but I don't think its ok to lose upwards of tens or hundreds of maps worth of exp from dying once.
It's never okay to lose even a single XP.

its bad when devs don't respect the player's time.

Exactly this. A game should never make you lose more time than it took you to gain something.

For someone like me, if you could throw your face into the same situation/tier of difficulty over and over and get lucky, it makes the game feel shallow. Punishments like these force you to take every situation seriously, and it gives individual fights a greater context. Otherwise you can just repeat everything until the easiest permutation of it pops up.

To make a comparison: I prefer RPGs with discrete save points to ones that freely let you save and load whenever you want, because then even the little easy encounters become part of a larger puzzle. Like: how do I get through this dungeon in one trip? When do I ease on resources, when do I step on the gas?

The XP penalty makes you think: should I take a swig of potion now, even though I only got nicked, to save me from a potential 2-shot, or will I need all my charges once that mob closes in? Do I risk going in? Do I retreat?

Now, XP penalties are one of my least favorite forms of punishment, but since PoE2 doesn't have a traditional save system... And it's never going to take items out of your inventory like a roguelike... And it doesn't have long-term consumables to expend mid-battle... It's hard for me to imagine what else they could do. There has to be something like that to give greater context to individual 10-second-long fights.

The penalty isnt high enough imo. It creates tension instead of players who blindly die through content and not learn how to improve their build. Too many people focused on being damage glass cannons and overlook resistances... then wonder why they die a lot. I'm not saying you /have/ to play differently. But you gotta eat what you cook.
These people wont rest until PoE turns into D4. :steamfacepalm:
