Path of Exile 2

Types of damage
I have 75% resist to all elements and immunity to chaos. What kind of damage is that green ♥♥♥♥ from abyss enemies, particularly that women like figure in green that ♥♥♥♥♥ green ooze in her feet? That ♥♥♥♥ did a lot of damage on my monk with 60% ev and 75% armour + elemental resistances at 75 and chaos immunity.

What damage is that?

EDIT: Hey, thanks for the answers everybody. If anyone has something more to add, feel free to comment.

physical damage dot i believe
what guy above me said, could be physical DOT. Abyss rares can get ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrifying. My disciple has 11k ES. max resists, about 70% armour and immunity to bleed and chaos. I'll be running t16 maps and those bastards still always make me pucker my cheeks. Death is inevitable with abyss it seems
Abyssal damage is misleading somewhat because everything is green, which makes you think poison/chaos damage is in there somewhere.

It's rather heavy Physical/Bleed, plus Fire/Burning.

Watching Spectre testing videos on Spectre database site around Abyssal creatures in 0.3 clued me in the most. I was hoping they were chaos based, but it was all again, heavy physical/fire + their respective DoTs on hits. Like the big green beam. Much like the way the alternative special Abyssal Lich Ascendancy focuses on Physical/Fire rather than Chaos damage (well at least physical).

The best hint is that some of their ground abilities do look like fire damage and are yellow rather than green.

The best defense on top of basic ones for me has been Raise Shield to block all that incoming beam crap. :P

Also CC recently like Thunderstorms w/ Electromagnetism (so it pulls in enemies and hinders them when it hits 4+ at a time). This has really helped keep Abyssal pressure off 2 toons using it, while setting up auto shocks on enemies in drenched areas.

The easiest time vs. Abyss has been my Minion Master Varashta Sorceress this patch. She has 9.5K ES, CI (immune to poison/bleed), 60% of current ES counting as armour for the purpose of Physical Damage due to Sacred Rituals, and wearing Prayers for Rain unique body armour (ES starts can't be interrupted once started like the PoE1 capstone that did the same and was OP) + a shield + Navira's Well. Can basically face tank abyssal encounters swarming that character. Navira's Fracturing does help keep them in line by chain Freezing/Shattering everything on the screen. :p

Much better than my Lich Spectre build running Cultist Archers + 3 perma curses, including perma high magnitude Enfeeble (Reducing all damage from rares by around 30%-50%) and large perma Temporal Chain grounds (Slowing them rares down and their actions by like 50%-75%).

Unless it's a 10K+ physical one shot hit on Varashta summoner she's very hard to kill. Especially beam attacks if I have time to click Navira's Well (I have eaten like 20K+ total damage beams hits from like juiced Doryrani but was lucky lol). Basically when I click Well I have 6 seconds of ES recharge at 3.5K ES per second. That makes pretty much everything Abyss can throw at me null and void. I only worry when I'm surrounded by like 4-5 super juiced Abyssal rares. Otherwise the only thing that really scares me are late game juiced, high direct one hit physical damage bosses like Quadrilla boss. :p

(Note Navira's Well is only good here because of Body Armour unique. Otherwise the ability is sort of poop because its recharge can be interrupted by default unlike Convalescence spirit gem. With Prayers for Rain, Well's 6 seconds ES recharge seems to remain too when you hit max ES because it never ends early).

Also remember that in order for armour to reduce physical damage by around 50%, your armour rating needs to be about 4x the incoming physical damage if I remember correctly myself. That means heavy physical damage like from Abyssal abilities will naturally be stronger vs. armour compared to smaller physical hits unless you have like 20-30K armour. My 5.7Kish ES armour from Sacred Rituals when at max ES will only reduce elite Abyssal mob hits by small amounts, while being more effective against smaller hits and lower physical DoT from trash.
Its "desecrated ground". Very high physical dot as long as you stand in it.
It disables all heal, regen, leech, flask everything.

Yep overall just keep moving and try to kite beams/grounds etc., save for the black AoE/aura. The latter requires the player to be within to damage Abyssal rares that have that modifier (required even for minions that yuou're in it).
